cz75 SP01 Shadow

the cutting of the spring is not permitted for IPSC production rules....everything else is good as long as it is OEM. USPSA allows you to do just about anything as long as it stays the same on the outside.

John,

If I'm in the wrong - I'm in the wrong; and I'll accept it and will try my best to make it right for whoever is involved.
If I made a misleading claim on here I'm VERY sorry, but I doubt it.
All the info on IPSC I ever tried to relay is what I get from quite reputable people who are well known shooting IPSC for many years. I have reasons to trust Angus and Brian.
Me on other hand - I never once shot IPSC match as I shoot IDPA (Canada and USA) and USPSA (USA) as of now.
We actually met in person at last IDPA BC Provincials and we dealt too in the past with you buying something from me. If you have something you are not happy with - please, let me know, I'll fix it.

If I ever posted incorrect info - please, correct me and post correct info, I'm not gonna be offended. We are all here to 'get it right', in the long run. I do care for my name on here and everywhere else too.

Cheers,
E.D.

Okay. Here is a passage lifted from the latest post on Global Village asking about issues relating to Production Division issues. Vince Pinto is the IPSC Secretary and IPSC Handgun Rules Director. His answers are in parentheses.

On the last match it turned out that some shooters declared, that anything that is sold on cz-usa.com, is LEGAl for PD in IPSC (Nonsense). As far as I understand the discussion, only those things, that are listed on czub.cz, are legal (Correct).
Therefor my questions:

Recoil Spring: On czub.cz there is only one recoil spring listed, a replacement part. There is no 11 lb recoil spring. Thus, any 11 lb recoil spring from cz-usa.com or czcustom.com ist NOT LEGAl for PD (Correct).
Magazin spring 1: On czub.cz there is only one magazin spring listed, a replacement part. Thus, if I replace in my original CZ magazin the spring by a more powerfull one, this is NOT LEGAL (Correct).
Magazin Spring 2: Using a third party magazin: If I replace the magazin spring from a third party magazin (mec gear) by a more powerfull one from Wolff, that is LEGAL. (Correct)
Extractor: As I have problems using Blazer alloy ammo, I would like to change the form ot the extractor a very little bit by taking off very little of the material from the extractor. The intention is to make a very minor change in order to get the extractor to funktion properly. Is this LEGAl in PD? (Yes)

Grip: The only grips listed on czub.cz are wood, rubber, and metal grips to use with tape. (the red, blue and silver ones). On cz-usa.com there are black thin metal grips. Althougt I can see these grips on a lot of PD guns, they are NOT LEGAL, are they? (Legal, if they're on the approved CZ parts list - see below)http://czcustom.com/cz_75-thin-grips-border-checker.aspx (Approved if they have the same profile as the grips in the image below.)

Safety: On the poster with the approved parts there are 3 different safeties. I can not see wether they are one-sides or ambi. Is it LEGAL in PD to replace the ambi safety by the "enlarged safety left side only"? (Yes)

As you can see from his answers to this gentleman's questions even our 11lb recoil spring are possibly illegal.

Follow this link to the IPSC Handgun rule book and refer to Pg 85.

This spells out the rules associated with PD division. Modifications such as trigger jobs or clipping springs are not allowed. You can not add an extra power spring to a OEM mag BUT you can to an aftermarket mag!! Weird eh :)

The language states that you are allowed to do 'minor detailing' to the internals. The clarifications I have read say that the intent is to allow a general deburring of the action. The only other allowable mods to the gun are as described in the quote above - true reliability. Anything else -like a trigger job- is expressly prohibited.

You can read as well as I so I am not going to reiterate every line :)

To many guys take the detailing language as license to open up the gun and go at it with files and dremels, emery cloth or whatever. Not cool

As far as USPSA goes -their rules and practices are not relevant. If you don't believe me go ask Vince :)

Well this thread seems to have taken an IPSC rules tangent. Imagine that...lol :D

Back to the subject at hand...I have used mine to shoot IPSC for over 2 years. I have only ever had one problem with it, unfortunately at the IPSC nationals. Seems a piece of crap got into the workings of the trigger and cause the trigger to disconnect. It was a freak thing that was fixed by shooting a bit of gun cleaner around the trigger bar area.

Otherwise the gun has been 100% reliable. It likes rounds loaded a little shorter than the COL listed in manuals for reliable feeding - factory rounds though have never caused me a problem.

I have the skinny aluminum girps on mine and that works great with my smaller hands. The factory grips were too beefy for me but a lot of guys are okay with them...

I have the lighter (factory, IPSC legal'ish) springs that I actually bought from Ceezer. I have not installed them yet though because I'm not practicing enough for it to make that big a difference in my IPSC shooting. The point there is that for recreational target shooting there really are no mods needed to the gun. Ditto for marginal IPSC shooters like myself.
It shoots like a dream out of the box. You'll be happy with your purchase.

The Shadow is the only 9mm pistol I own and shoot. Every time I have rented or tried shooting someone else's 9mm (Glock, MP9, Walther, Beretta..) nothing out there seems to shoot better for me (Beretta M9 was very close though).

Found a picture from IPSC Global post from Vince with a picture of CZ and what I believe are approved parts. Does not mention strength of springs but does show grips etc.

Food for thought

Cheers
