CZ858 Transformation to an Iraqi Tabuk **It's Finished!!! See post #36**

looks great, but the stock angle is just awkward looking

I agree that the angle at which the stock is mounted does look a bit awkward but it is necessary due to the raised comb of the stock. If you look at the first pictures I posted of the fitting of the stock it looks much better however I wasn't able to get a good sight alignment with the factory sights. I still wanted to be able to use the sights so I had to adjust the mounting angle in order to get proper alignment.

If you look closely you'll notice that the stock is at a considerable less angle with the receiver than the factory stock. This makes trying to get a proper sight picture quite difficult as I pretty much need to crush my face into the wood to get remotely close to lining up the sights. Not too concerned about it at this point seeing as how I will be mounting the scope in the near future.

Without the cheek pad I can pick up the sights without any strain, the whole set-up feels quite natural despite its looks. With the cheek pad, I get a perfect alignment with the scope. This falls within my goal of having fully functional conversion as well as having the resemblance of a M70 Tabuk.

Thanks for all nice comments guys! It's really encouraging considering this is the project of the sort that I have done. I didn't have any previous woodworking experience but with the way this rifle came out I feel confident to try something else whenever I get the urge.

And the red rifles are all about function over form - if it looks ugly but works better, you can bet that is what they would have done.

Yup, you bet! It's one of the traits I like about Red Rifles: they're raw.
