DA Grizzly doesn't stay in battery when shot

That is not normal. Here I am firing an 870 Express with 3" magnum slugs. I am shooting it quickly to show that it can handle 3" slugs with speed and am unconcerned with accuracy. Notice the gun doesn't do anything close to what the OP described.

THE ACTION ON MY MODEL 870 OPENS WHEN I FIRE IT. IS THIS NORMAL?

It is the design of the Model 870 for the action bar lock to disengage once the shell has been fired. This enables you to load and fire the second shot with more speed.

---------------------------------

Guys, seriously, if you understand how the 870 (and clones) work, you would know that the described occurrence is NORMAL, if you do not have a firm grip on the fore end.

The action bar lock disengages once the hammer drops fully forward and hits the primer. Gun fires, and recoil is felt by the shooter. The shooter's body absorbs the recoil of the shotgun, however, if the foreend is not held tight in the shooter's hand, the inertia of the shotgun recoiling will sometimes send the fore-end rearwards, partially opening the action.

Unless the locking lug on your bolt is broken, or is not engaging upon closing the action, this is a non-issue.

If you don't want the possibility of the action opening a little after firing, you gotta hold the fore-end with a firm grasp.

Story ends.

But if you listened to the Internet there is nothing wrong with that gun. How could that be? Unpossible!

An 870 is not an "assisted" pump kids.

All of my 870's are broken apparently. Oh sugar....

I better send em all in to Remington. Dang this sucks.

Mine would not lock..... So if it was fired (I sure as hell was not gonna try it) It would have 'opened' up.... I know mine was not a 'normal' issue , otherwise why would I have got a complete refund/credit for it, hmmmm??

Sometimes / often it's easier and better for business to give the customer exactly what they want, even when they are wrong.

Not saying you were wrong, just saying it happens...

So, what I gathered from the OP, Mine was the same deal. If I would have fired it, It would have blasted the whole works backwards (while being fired, not after). When a shell was loaded in the chamber I could slide the action back... usually you gotta pull a trigger first... Maybe my issue was totally different than the OP's..... cheers....

Not a normal issue and not what the OP is talking about. Some 870's do it, especially with hotter loads and some don't. More than likely minute differences in timing but its not a safety issue. You guys can send your guns off if you want, or throw money down the drain, but its not a safety issue. My HP-9 did it with hot loads, it would kick open about halfway.

As far as mine goes, I emailed asking for details about what was repaired the first time I sent it in, I was going to fix it myself on the 2nd time(or try anyways) because I had it way longer than I thought any warranty would ever cover. I didn't want to get rid of it, But maybe you're right. The credit may have been the easiest solution. Anyways I have a real 870 now. I have built it into what I want, and all is good...... the moral of my story is .... Canadaammo went above and beyond as far as Im concerned. Great guys....
