DA50 .50BMG upper!!!???

It might be the alcohol right now but this upper is driving me out of my mine, i want one... I mean need one!... I need more money hahab

So, after a bit of dicking around, I removed the bolt HOD catch.
(I didnt have the correct roll pin punch, so I had to grind the tang of a chainsaw file to suit)
Anyway, out with the HOD and original hammer, in with new hammer and spring.

Now I'm starting to question the wisdom of firing the mighty 50 with a plastic collapsible stock attached...

So,...
Did I mention that there is no manual yet.
I suspect I'm going to write one. Just like the last gun I tested...

Anyway, I got the HOD issue sorted out, and was ready to cycle the action a bit.
Nope. Locked solid.
It seems the retaining pin for the buffer retainer pin blocks the rearward travel of the 50BMG bolt.
So out it comes. (small vertical post just left of centre)

A simple enough job, except that there is a tiny coil spring that is held in place by the oval plate that is pinched in place by the castle nut on the buttstock. The buttstock has to be backed off a few threads to let the buffer retaining pin free, so the springs sproings out.
What a colossal PITA to get it back in place. After about 12 tries, and it slipping sideways, I spotted a shallow hole in the plate, to hold the end of the spring in place.
(Silver dot on camera left/gun right side of oval plate above)
That fixed it. Now the bloody thing stays put.

I'm getting anxious seeing all these posts.

Has anyone found a NR lower that's still available? My googling has turned up empty...

you know what would be REALLy fun,,is IF Canada Ammo,,would make their UN-restricted lower,,uses mostly milspec m16/ar lower parts,,,BUT add a nice box magazine,,,since they are going from scratch,,it shouldn't be too hard or costly,,i'm sure A LOT of guys would love this too,,,and use a readily available magazine,,unless Can Am can make their own cheaper,,,you gotta love a seller THIS dedicated,,,

Why would you even keep the buffer assembly? Wouldn't it be simpler to just keep the empty buffer tube to cycle the bolt?

That's cheap! I would have thought it were more! :)

How's the component supply?

I do not factor Brass into my reload cost as it is reusable.

I have close to 800 brass, which I picked up for $1.25 each shipped
I bought a large amount of powder from Higginson at $26 per pound
I purchased pulled projectiles @ $.60 each
Primers are the Dominion Arms primers from CanAm for $.35 each

Most difficult item to find is the pulled projectiles but I have seen numerous listings of them on the EE lately. BUY IT CHEAP AND STACK IT DEEP !!!

We have done all of our testing on the DA556A2 lower receiver.

Now I definitely want Tootall to come over and try this upper on my other lowers because when I tried putting a Norc lower on my other uppers it would not fit and when I tried the Norc upper on my other lowers it would not fit.

Some testing is definitely going to be required.

Good sir, you are too kind.

I am sorry to say that with all of the excellent work you are doing I will not be buying one: I am not "tearing down & modifying" one of my highly customized lowers to fit this on top. If it was like any other upper that could swap on and off easily with space for the HOD, a notch for the buffer retaining pin in the bolt, leave in my expensive Giselle hammers and so forth I would buy one in a heartbeat... maybe less.

I just don't want to buy a lower to dedicate to it.

However, thank you for preventing me from making an expensive mistake: I will leave my share for someone to buy and love. :dancingbanana:

BTW: you are still awesome...

We are talking about an exceptionally low entry price point...and you refuse to use that as an excuse to build another lower? Really?

Not an excuse: the specific reason I have the AR platform is because of the ease of interchangeability: this one strength is why I have bought into the AR platform and have supported their move to NR status. Two lowers, one .223 and one .308 each with identical length of pull, trigger, etc., will allow a myriad of uppers to go on them by only pulling pins and changing magazines. This DA50 .50BMG upper would require another registered lower, getting a single shot NR lower that seems to be "unobtainium" right now, or doing a lot of work to an existing lower to not be easily interchangeable with the myriad of uppers (replacing pin, catch, etc).

Sorry, but if you remove the one greatest strength I find in the platform (my opinion, mind you) then I won't be happy with the item. Would anyone buy a Savage Axis if it was $2,000 (price being strength in my opinion) or buy a Remington 700 if the action was made of cast tin (their action being their strength in my opinion.)

Plus, now that I'm not buying one please feel free to buy my share! There: A win for me (don't get what I don't want), win for you (you get one that might not be available) and a win for CanadaAmmo (they sell another one I would not have bought). :sniper:
