DA50 Shorties.. What barrel length?!

Funny reading these posts, most guys haven't even fired a 50 that weighs 25 lbs... Let alone firing a light one with a short barrel. 12 inch barrel .50 cals are too dangerous for the tactical mall ninjas on here!

By that logic derringers are too just dangerous for handgun shooters. Better ban em.

A 50 doesn't need to burn all it's powder, to far exceed the ".45 punch" of any commercially available cartridge on the market.

Can't wait to get home. Boy do I have a necro to bump :D.

The 50bmg needs at least a 29'' barrel to burn all its powder .. Any .50bmg with a barrel under 26'' is just a novelty gun in my opinion , very nasty to shoot unless you like huge fireballs, excessive concussion and recoil , and greatly reduced velocity..

What are the odds of getting a Bayo lug added? Dead serious.

Tag for interest in a 16".

Could they be loaded lighter to get more if not all powder burnt? Lower velocity, massive projectile?

I honestly have zero idea.

This might be a use for some extra "vacation pay".

Was doing some googling. A 16" barrel is probably still going to have ~2000-2100 fps. With a 660 gr projectile that's nothing to laugh at. Not the flattest trajectory but it'd be a hell of a fun time to shoot.

Why even bother with a projectile? Just dump a botload of powder (or FFg) into a 1/2'' pipe and throw a match in there. That's gonna make a huge fireball!

Heh, I just saved everyone 2500$!

You say that like its a bad thing... :)

Not having seen these rifles in their current iteration, how readily can the barrel be switched on these platforms with the proper tools?

If one can readily do this, could the barrels not be bought in batches via special - custom - orders?

Cheers!

Yeah, but that's for SF guys when they have to jump out of an airplane. They're sacrificing capability for portability. I don't really see the point in getting anything under 26", (especially 12" !), but to each their own...

... And isn't that the main reason a lot of people buy guns? I may never need this... But SF has it. Lol

And I think they were for the Coast Guard for drug boat interdiction while they were in helicopters... Not nearly as cool... But still...

It's been done by a CGN member : Otokiak

With Iron sights to boot ;)

And he currently has that rifle for sale!!!

If it had a 29" barrel, it'd be one I would've looked at... Not a fan of shorter barrels on the 50BMG as you need 29" to burn all the powder...

Cheers

18.5 - 22......any of them. 22 would be most practical. 18.5 would be most fun. I'd prolly go for the 20 and split the diff.
