I'm looking to get some gear for various competitions (IPSC, 3 gun, combat shotgun etc) and I've done a bunch of research, my thoughts are that I`d like:

DAA premium belt - it seems stiffness/rigidity are key with a belt and this appears to be the stiffest out there - this is a decent review for 3 different belt brands

For a holster I`m leaning towards the DAA Alpha-X as it looks like a quality product

The Safariland model 086 shotgun caddies look sweet, thinking of getting 2 or 3 of these

For pistol pouches I'm thinking DAA Race Masters (not sure how many?) as I'm not sure about the magnetic type. The magnetic type would be easier/faster but I suspect it would be easy to nudge the mag enough with your body to knock it off if you have to manoeuvre into a tight/awkward spot

Not sure about rifle mag pouches (haven't got that far yet) but I'm conscious of the fact that it will need handle short 10 round MFT LAR style mags, although I have just ordered couplers to double them up and make them similar to 30 round magazine size

Anyways I really like the ease that equipment can be swapped out by using the ELS clip system but that means using a Safariland belt - unless - you do one of two things:

Option one: "Modify" the DAA belt to accommodate the ELS system like this (basically making ELS type holes in a non Safariland belt):

Or option two: Use these ELS to non ELS adaptors - clicky

Has anyone tried/used these? Modifying the belt seems a bit ghetto but it would be lighter/cheaper

For those that have experience with this equipment I`d appreciate any advice you can give regarding any of the choices as I'm trying to figure this out without handling/seeing the gear as there is nowhere locally

DAA makes what they call the alpha rail which allows you to slide items on and off and rearrange. If your wanting a DAA belt it might be the easier route.

I attached the ELS receiver plate to a Bladetech Teklok, this set up allows me to make fine adjustments

If you want to use ELS clips why don't you just use the Safariland belt?
It just seems silly to me to use an attachment made for a belt and then add more attachments or modifications to work with a different belt.
You may find in the end you will have a belt for IPSC, a belt for 3 gun... etc., etc.!

Race Master pouches are nice but damn, they're pricey. I use the Racer version that are made of polymer.

If you get the Alpha-X, get the thigh pad accessory to go with it. I'm using a RaceMaster holster now but going to pick up an Alpha-X as a secondary (or primary) and while doing my research, that was the most common complaint with the Alpha-X ie lack of a thigh pad to keep the holster from either digging into your thigh.

Those holster magnets are pretty damn strong.

As Scar pointed out, DAA makes their own quick change holster/pouch system. Low profile and allows a lot of the belt valcro through so your belt isn't sagging on you.

Want to avoid buying a new belt and already own a lot of Teklok, my additional expenses to my gear are the ELS 34/35 only, still using my existing Safariland pouches and holster. One Belt for all ( IPSC, 3Gun and anything in between.

This is what I'm aiming for - one belt for all, ideally with a setup that can be easily tailored with different attachments for different sections. I think with a little messing around its doable

Thanks for the info

The Alpha X sounds pretty much perfect

I assume its legal for IPSC?

Yeah, that'd be more straight forward for sure but the real problem is that I like various attachments from several different brands so I either compromise and purchase all the equipment from one vendor or I try to piece it all together somehow with the exact gear that I like

Yes, the Alpha-X is ipsc legal in all the divisions. They aren't IDPA legal though. I like the fact that you can switch inserts and compete with a different gun if you wanted to change things up.

Interesting. I also have a Sig P320 - how would that work with the magnetic retainer (being a "plastic" gun)?

The DAA inserts secures the pistol using a mechanical catch/hook that locks onto the front of the trigger guard. The magnetic part they are referring to is an internal mechanism to keep the trigger guard catch from accidentally closing after the pistol has been removed from the holster.

Agree with Tomo333. If you get into IPSC, 3 Gun, etc, you will likely end up with a belt rig for each sport.
Once you get your belt rig set up the way you want it for one sport most folks want to keep it that way and find it’s not worth the effort to be constantly changing it up for matches, practices and dry firing.

I run 3 belts. A dedicated IPSC belt with 5 CR speed mag pouches and a single ghost magnet at the front I use Barney mags and table mag pick-ups. A 3 Gun belt with 3 different shotgun caddie configurations that hold 26 or 28 SG shells and bladetech Rifle and pistol mag pouches that can be easily removed for IPSC shotgun matches. And third belt is for IPSC rifle/Service Rifle and assorted matches.

Find above 3 belt system works well for me.

I've been running the CR Speed Belt with the ELS System for the last 3 years!!! Not sure if you were able to convert your DAA belt to accommodate the ELS, if not let me now and I can tell you how I did mine?

I'm curious - was it similar to the "Bullit Mcqueen" video I posted?

Thanks for the info (goes off to look for Alpha X video on Youtube)
