I received my 5/64" pins earlier in the week and they seem to be a decent substitute for the 2mm pins.... they were an 1/8 of an inch too long, but easy to grind to length. effects you must be dealing with a smarter fella at your Fastenal branch, I was told they wouldn't get me 2mm pin unless I placed an order for like $30 bucks worth .. :confused:

So having both my 3.5mm pins and my substitute 2mm pins (5/64) I did a little experimentation a few days ago. My 3.5mm pins as they came were spread a little too open for my to just try and pound them straight into my slide ..... in fact they resembled more of a horseshoe shape rather than a round pin. I made a tool out of a 1" thick block of steel by drilling a 3.5mm hole through it, then opened the hole slightly larger to a depth of about 1/3". I put the block in the vise lubed the stepped hole and drove a pin through with a punch, swaging the pin....... this resulted in a rounder shaped pin.

I'll be working on getting mine finished up today, once I take care of my domestic duties. The wife is working today, so I'll pop open a cold beer, turn on HNIC and get to sanding the frame and prepping for coating. I think I'll try a few of the new techniques that have been mentioned here too.

Gotta love being in the DAC club!

Midway through the job, it looks like it has been left in the rain, with no oil on it for two weeks.

I'd love to try that process out. It's just not possible in the space I have now. The dark bluing makes it look very SIG though.
 
got mine up & running, light firing pin strikes, notched the hammer spring carrier & a lighter firing pin spring. We will see if that solved everything. Im kind of sad this project is coming to a close....Its been great fun! I went the opposite 2 tone, polished frame & the rest black.

I applied the Cerakote tonight ...... graphite black on the frame and stainless on the slide. The only thing left to do is another range run to see if I've improved the light primer strikes ...... I've reshaped the firing pin, done the MiltonBradly modification to my hammer strut, and I even took a couple of coils off the firing pin spring. Hopefully I'll see some results.

Well, its late ..... I'll think I'll toast her with a beer, then off to bed. Oh yeah, here's a couple of pics of her in her party dress !!

Thanks for the tip on pins through the metal block. Mine will arrive on Monday (yeah they said that about them arriving on last Friday too.) We need to have a DAC shoot somewhere!

Still no word on my breechblock :(

I don't have regular access to phone or internet anymore (new job) so I'm going to have to wait a while to contact Dlask. But great job on the DAC's guys!!!

slightly different frame on mine, stamping is all on the right side. Went together nice, the time is in the details, still to come.
 
She's all ready for paint now. Just have to paint it tomorrow, fit the parts for the millionth time and she's a done deal. I too am a little sad about being finished, but now I have a Norinco 1911 on the way that I got for a steal. Already have new parts coming for the new build. I can't wait to fire this one, though.
 
Ah ok, cool. I was going to try modifying a screwdriver to work but the nut driver idea sounds a lot better.... I was imagining the screwdriver slipping and plunging into my hand :eek:

I got the hammer trimmed down tonight and the hammer pin fitted. The main spring was holding me up but I test fit the sear, safety and ejector plate and they all seem to fit well. I guess we'll see how it works when I get some more parts in there though.

I put a dremel grinding wheel on my drill press and moved the drill press platform up just below the grinding wheel. Worked well at re-radiusing the hammer and keeping everything square. Saved me $80 too :)
