DAC 394 (Sig 228 Clone) Kit

Well, I'm finally having some issues. Broke the plastic hammer stop on final assembly and the reset spring. SMH Getting replacements is going to be a bi*ch if I can't get them from Dlask, I left them a message - hopefully I can get a new one. The only other place I've found them is Brownell's and I'm not sure about how I'd order $13 worth of parts from the US. lol

Other than that, the sear doesn't seem to want to engage the hammer, so I'll have to do the slight filing on the hammer to get it in. Also, the slide won't rack all the way. Something is stopping it about 1cm from the slide lock. I'll look back and see if anyone else had to resolve this problem.

So close and yet so far! LOL!

Mine took suprisingly little filing to make the connection, as always YMMV

The feed ramp?

Let me save you some time - I tried to order a bunch of spare parts, and my entire order was rejected - apparently Sig is not registered with the State Dept.

This is the greatest ####ing thread ever! There are soooo many people in over their heads cause the thought of a $200 pistol was too good to pass up :)
Some epic fails....its classic :)

Along with the epic fails, there are some epic wins. I have learned so much about my Sig pistols, that it's a bargain at double the price. I look forward to completing mine, and adding it to my collection.

The trouble is that no-one wants to sell their "fails". Hedgehog is already posting here and in the EE looking for one. I wouldn't mind another kit as well.

yes there might be fails , but people are hanging on to them. maybe they are using them for something else. door stops? hammers? :p

If you guys come to find you don't have the time to finish your project , or you gone done and broke it , send me a pm

Joe told me he has many spare parts. He has a big box of slides, and barrels too.
He is in the middle of setting up his new shop. Nothing is in place yet. It looks like they just unloaded all the machines, and they were just putting together the shelving.
He said they wouldn't be more than another week or so, as he can't afford to be idle for too long.

You will just have to be patient with this timing. He is a good business man who does care about his customers.

That's good news. Even if this thing becomes a $200 paperweight, I can now completely strip a Sig in about 3 mins. LOL

I pretty much got everything together. but did anyone else have problems with the trigger bar? For double action, mine would grab the hammer about half way and then slip off, seems it would be a pretty weak double action strike to me. For the single action, it looks like the trigger doesn't travel enough for it to engage the sear release. I"m thinking of taking material off the back of the trigger, what do you think?

There was a thread about this on Homegunsmiths. There is a bit of metal on the back of the frame that needs to be filed away to allow the trigger bar to move backwards fully.

I think you have to take a little more material off of the trigger bar ramp. As you pull the trigger, this ramp cams the trigger bar out of engagement with the hammer notch. You want it to draw the hammer back far enough that the trigger bar contacts and raises the safety lever before it releases the hammer. The safety lever raises the safety lock in the slide out of the way of the firing pin. ( Otherwise no Bang )

Ensure that the trigger can travel full stroke without binding ...... mine was contacting the inside of the locking block. ( I posted some pics further back in this thread ) The trigger was also contacting the frame in the corners of the trigger cutout .... a little file work solved that.

Make sure you understand the relationship of how the parts work before you decide what to file ! :D

Good luck !

Edit:
There was a thread about this on Homegunsmiths. There is a bit of metal on the back of the frame that needs to be filed away to allow the trigger bar to move backwards fully.

This is true as well .... I had to grind a little metal out of my frame to allow the trigger bar to room to move.

Edit again:

Here's a good thread on homegunsmith.com about fitting the trigger bar ...... starts about halfway down the page.

after 5 hours of JUST filing and fitting the trigger bar, disconnecter, and trigger assembly, finally got double action and single action working..... 20 hours for me on this build...

Does anyone know where I can get a genuine sig parts kit?too much grinding and rough finishing makes me worried about reliability.

I'm hoping that when Dlask gets fully back up and running that there are enough kits still available. I am also looking to buy a kit that someone has given up on. I posted in EE pistols WTB. I really would like to give this project a go. I have been practicing Parkerizing with a homebrew formula for the solution and posted a picture heavy link in Gunsmithing.

I don't know if they ship to Canada but it's a start

Well, after taking a week off of building and focusing on some other things, I've got the DAC 394 all together and working in single action. I think I see where the trigger bar isn't grabbing the hammer, so I figure I've got one more total disassemble, cleaning, reassemble and I should have a working S/A, D/A pistol! It feeds and ejects snapcaps with no problem. First one I put in was binding against the feed ramp, but after freeing that one I've had no issues. I've spoke with Dlask and they've got a new hammer stop and reset spring on the way, so I'm just about done this build. Only have to get a tap for the grips and figure how I'm going to finish it.

This has been one heck of a rollercoaster of a project, but it has been worth every minute. I'm new to handguns, but if someone has even a moderate amount of knowledge with tools and can do simple mechanical tasks, they should be able to do this.

At this point my only regret is........................................... I didn't buy another one.

Depending on how it functions in it's first range test, I might send it to a smith to tune up the action, but we'll see.

Thanks to everyone for all their help, sorry I couldn't post pics, but my digital camera seems to have vanished.

BTW, what's the size on the grip threads?
