Took my dad's old Swedish Mauser to the range to get my daughter shooting for our upcoming moose hunt. This old rifle is a sporterized job, the likes of which I've never seen, it's beautiful! And it shoots!!!

Last time I used it was 5 years ago, three shots at the range touching to check the zero onthe old Sportchief and one shot to get my hest whitetail to date.

So today I fired the first shot and it was bang on. I get my daughter to take the next one an she says "I cant see where it went, I think I missed..." ha, looking thru the spotting scope I see that the second shot went into the first one, her next shot went a half inch fromthe first two.

Next we switched to thee other loads I had, all different bullets and the silly rifle put's them all in nice thight groups, all within a few inches of the first one.

So whatever load i feed it, is never more than an inch and a half from my goto load, unbelievable!

This rifle was picked out of a barrel by Jojo at LeBaron a long time ago, he was an armourer, and one of the best. He machined a barrel band to hide the bayonnet end as well as a metal cap to go over the tip of the full lenght stock another of my dad's friends made for him from a piece of Lebanese wood dad got a pilot friend to bring over.

Great rifle, I'm afraid to break it!!!

The Swedes are all I use now[6.5x55 /Sierra 139 gr and 9.3X57 /Privipartizan 286 gr].....and very tough to beat in terms of craftsmanship, accuracy and low recoil.Mine are all topped with older fixed power leupolds-also tough to beat-and a great combination for a hunting rifle for anything in North America .

Love the 6.5 but wouldn't use 140gr Sierra's on moose.I load 42gr of IMR 4350 or the same of Norma 204 and either a 156gr or 160 Hornady RN You won't find a bullet in a moose.Never had bullet failure core slippage with the Hornady inter-locks yet anyways even on Grizzly.A Hornady or Partition n 140gr would be just fine .............Harold

She'll be using a 140 grain partition or 130 grain TSX. Both bullets will do fine. I'll be there to back her up (if needed) with my .300 WSM spitting out 168 grain Barnes TTSX's. She's a pretty good shot and remains calm when shooting at game so I'm not worried. And moose are big animals, but not that difficult to kill...

I'll post pictures of the rifle tonight. Not the daughter as BigUglyMan trolls the site just for them pics...

Ok, some pictures, not very good as I worked late and these were takne under "house" lighting...

absolutely beautiful rifle!you owe it to him to take care of it....the only issue is you almost don't want to take it out hunting for fear of dinging it...

Yes the stock is something else and I AM scared of breaking it. But you know what, it was made for hunting, and will keep on making it in the field! I have other rifles for when I want to climb mountains or slug through marshes, this one is at home walking a trial, doing the hardwoods bit or glassing clearcuts.

I am using H4831SC cause I have lot's of it, works well. The Barnes 130 print nearly to the same point as the 140 partitions, I would not feel under gunned with either.

Interesting rifle & stock. A beautiful job.

That's the first time I've seen a crossbolt safety that works through the stock like that.

NAA.

Troutseeker, there is a cutout for a side safety, was there a different trigger with a side safety?
BTW that is a nice looking rifle, take it hunting.
