Damn Porcupines AGAIN, post 167... Nos decided to kill one... PICS POST 49

I had two dogs at the same time trying to eat a family of pp, I live in the country and it was an emergency call on a Sunday, however the vet only charged me $100.00 each.

When the Shepard did it a few hours later the vet only charged me 50.00 as he was still in the office.

If no one mentioned it yet, a tip I got was to cut the quills first to release the air....they pull out a lot easier

I remember helping my ole grandpa hold down "cindy" when she got a snout full it was ole pliers to do the job ......poor dog , lived for years after that .......no more porcupines, it was open season on them
 
Feel for ya Jay - however, dog owners who get vet bills for Porky surgery removal, usually become gun owners 'round here....just saying from a recent experience with a colleague from the big city who moved to the country for the fresh air and wilderness... heh heh... didnt believe in guns...
No she and her husband are going for their PAL, and their dog is shy of porkys

Although I would have put this dog down I would not pour vinegar and baking soda on a raw wound.
 
I dropped 4 large on my russian wolfhound.... I had to put him down... I cancelled a florida turkey hunt and a trip to disney for the family over the loss....

He foiled a break in at my house and he was my best friend... you just can't get that everywhere.... if someone told me I could pay 4k and bring him back I wouldn't even blink..... RIP Lucky.....

The amount of money spent will become insignificant very quickly. Hell you'll flush a pile more down the crapper when you buy your next vehicle and you lose a few grand the instant the wheels hit the pavement.

A good hunting dog i worth its weight in gold. Not only do they make they make a crappy day of hunting seem great but their companionship has no equal. Wives, kids, friends , and others will piss you off at one time or another but a good dog never lets you down.

A couple of grand is meaningless. Nos is still here and that's all that matters.

Quick update 36 hours post 'porky'... Nos is starting to act more like himself, albeit with pain meds in him... He has not eaten much, maybe 1/3 the normal amount, but is drinking. I'm gonna assume his mouth is pretty damn sore!

We have pulled an additional 18 quills from his mouth, lips & sides of his face... I guess we will be at this for awhile...

All in all, $1271 well invested & here's hoping he's back to normal within a week!

HOLY CRAP!! how in the world do some people make it through the day without their heads splitting wide open being that there's so much stupidity in there trying to get out???

Jay good for you, you did the right thing, that's a beautiful dog you have there and I'm sure to you he's well worth the money you spent on him.

I know from personal experience that vets over charge, but when you care about your dog it doesn't matter at the time.
