Daniel Defence Torture Test

Larry's online

Larry is currently online over at M4C answering questions regarding the video.

Those of you who were so "brave" as to make online assertions regarding his integrity and experience, and personal comments regarding his appearance might like to go over there and repeat them to him.

Regards.

Mark

Internet commandos always flee from a fight in the end.

Hi Mark, do you have a link? I'd like to talk to Larry about a few things...

We'll do an audition here then. Post pics.

Nah.. I like to keep a lower profile than most. As well, I'm not attacking Larry -- I'm more or less saying that he isn't up-to-par for the Special Forces standards as he once was (and I don't think anyone would disagree with that). He can still shoot though! As for his soldiering in the past.. I can't comment since I don't know him.. but I do have a few questions for him. So the link to the M4C site would be much appreciated.

If the man can sell a gun.. by all means, DO SO!

Thanks!

Edit: I see someone beat me to the post about selling a product/independant testing, etc (plus I had to register.. so now I'm waiting for that). Here is what Larry had to say about the video:

Guys the promo torture test video are actually excerpts from my upcoming TV show on the torture test- the clips you see are pieced together from the filming; believe it or not to get the different angles we needed for filming the tests were usually done more than once ( like shot twice with birdshot, ran over 4 times with the jeep, etc.) - the explosion was only done once however for obvious reasons!

The show will have better continuity however as I also noted bits and pieces that don't fit together on the promo video - we were all very impressed with the DDM4 but even more so with the T1 - particularly since the gun always tilted so the optic hit first from any significant fall

The show is called TacTV and it will be available on Sportsman Channel and the show website for those who don't get that channel or want the bonus material that is available via the website- extended episodes and training tips will be available for a low subscription price - approximately $10 a month or $100 for the year

Heads up both Daniel Defense and Aimpoint are show sponsors - the test shook out exactly as you see it; filming these shows and airing them is not cheap - it frankly would not be possible without sponsors like DD, Aimpoint, BCM, and others - the key is to do it in a fashion that is entertaining and legitimate - I won't lie for anyone so if I say it on the show then you can take it to the bank. Some people don't buy into that and that is OK- I would suggest watching a different show that you feel is more 'believable'

And last but not least a TacTV discussion forum will be right here on M4C - all this should launch around the end of June

Be safe

LAV

Hopefully the registration goes through ASAP.. I still have some questions!!!!!!

Don't forget to mention the below when you message him.

I hate videos like this since I cannot comment on the validity of the 'test'.. I wasn't there.. and I didn't conduct, nor was part of this 'experiment' -- so all of it is based upon what THE COMPANY THAT PRODUCES THE WEAPON IS TELLING ME.

And yes, Larry is overweight. That (honestly) was the first thing I saw in the video, and I chuckled when I saw the label "retired US Special Forces" under his name. Honestly.. I haven't been in the Special Forces, but if you put me in the video, more people would believe I was in the SF than him. He's selling a product NOW, and it was his past accomplishments that got him the job to begin with.

Actually he is one of the most respected firearms trainers in the US NOW...it's not like he's riding on his past glories of small achievements like helping invent IDPA, an illustrious SOF career, being a world renowned 1911 smith, designing guns for HK etc.

Larry wouldn't put his name on the line for some shady camera tricks. I can't see the video due to my work filters but I'm presuming it has them bashing a DD rifle with Aimpoint around. If you are mil or LE, show up to an Aimpoint product demo and you can see similar drop/throw tests.

Very well said, I had the honor to meet LAV in person, and he is the "real" deal very knowledgeable and very approachable.
So much so that he has taken time to answer questions online via email from me.
BTW he is an original member of the SF raid on Modelo prison 1989 in Panama. He is a real end user and a tier one veteran.
If you question Larrys abilities talk to operators like Jason Falla of Redbackone, he was the lead instructor on my HK course back in 2005 when he had just left the regiment. He's worked with LAV at USTC on his series and is a tier one vet as well.

I know Larry could give a s**t about what people think about his weight, however if your going to "call the guy on the carpert" about his qualifications then you had better put your money where your mouth is, or STFU.

Vickers is a "m****rf****r" of the highest degree of achievement. The man has walked where the devil fears to tread. Believe it or not, many "tier one" guys let themselves go when they are done the job, mainly because when they get out they figure, "Okay, that's it, I'm done" and they try to walk away from the life. Many get dragged back though when they realize that they miss this s**t. Kind of like LAV. You would be a fool to turn down a chance to learn from him.

He has my respect.

As for the DDM4 torture test, I would like to see more manufacturers throw together a similar video of a standard representative product so that we can see what they believe a bang-stick should be able to withstand on deployment.

I just did that and the reticle glowed bright red. Any other questions?

When you hold the reticle at a bright light, the reticle is black. When you hold the reticle at a dark target, the reticle is lit.

Have you ever even looked through an ACOG/Accupoint? There is no "wash out" like the Reflex optic suffered from.

Can someone with an ACOG/Accupoint chime in here?

I did the same tests with my ACOG TA31F when I got it... never had any of the "issues" described.

Even when shooting from cover (read no direct sunlight onto the fiber optics) onto sunlit targets, the reticule of my ACOG was nice and bright.

Awesome, I'd like to see them do the same thing to an XCR now. :p

Well actually, I seriously want to see how a VZ58 would hold up.

After all this guy has accomplished it would be disappointing for him to go out because of clogged arteries.

I watched DD LAV part 1 last night, it is very good and informative, worth the money for sure, was very impressed. A must buy, and the tempo was very good for a beginner, better than Magpul video in this regard. I especially loved his quick take on a piston HK416 compared to the DI opinion, Larry is an awesome speaker with excellent instruction that really sinks in...Hackathorn is a legend as well..

DD series 10/10, there products are awesome and are setting new standards, great company...

I love watching torture tests, the drop on the concrete made me laugh thinking of how awfully akward that would be if it wasn't a torture test and you dropped sombody elses rifle! "Dude WTF you clumsy Bastard!" :D

Do you think they do anything between takes to safely test the rifle before he fires it by hand? Everytime he test fired it I was cringing.
