Have not posted here on CGN for a bit so I'm long overdue and since its a slow time in Jan I thought I would throw up a few pictures. If you are a member on Huntingbc you have seen them already.
Christmas of 2012. My daughter Morgan got her first rifle. Just a little savage axis youth model in 7mm-08. We spent months at the range practising as she had only shot the .22LR since the age of 10. And with the help of Steeleco we worked up a reduced recoil load as she is pretty tiny and stock ammo kicked a bit too much for her.
Sept we go on an annual camping trip with over a dozen friends and we decided we would see if we could get her a deer at the same time. Sept 1st was the start of youth season and an elderly ranch couple had given Steeleco and I the go ahead to let our daughters take deer off their alfalfa field.
Sept 1st We hunted the morning up a mountain where Steeleco's son a got himself a nice mulie. There was another buck there but we couldnt set up fast enough to get her a shot so we came back to camp for lunch empty handed.
For the evening we talked to the ranchers and set up on their field. As we walked on to the field a nice 4pt buck jumped out of his bed and took off. I guess they do like alfalfa. lol
We didnt wait long before another buck came onto the field but we were not in the greatest position. So we crawled to 200yrds of him. My daughter used my pack as a nice rest and now he is in the freezer with a shoulder mount on the way of her first deer. A 4x2 mulie still in velvet
The smile says all you need to know. So if anyone ever says you hunt like an 11yr old girl thats not necessarily a bad thing.
A special thanks to Steeleco and his family as they gave us a hand putting him in the truck and his daughter had every opportunity to shoot this buck as she was in a great position looking at the field, but she held off her itchy trigger finger so my daughter could get her first animal. Steeleco's daughter was rewarded with a great buck of her own the next day.
