Deactivated SKS?

Well, you can't buy one unless you are licensed to posses one. OP is under 19 but his parents allow him to buy "non controlled firearms" - airsoft. At least according to his posts on Airsoft Canada. Giving a firing pin to somebody else will still not turn a rifle into a dewat. You will still have firearm in the house - anyone else with a firing pin can walk in, put it in and make it work again.

That would be why I asked if he had a PAL. I realize that removing the firing pin does not make it a dewat. But it sounds to me like it's a trust issue with his parents.

Myself I wouldn't worry about somebody breaking in with another firing pin. There are storage laws.

I've seen his posts on Airsoft Canada. He is not age verified (most likely under 18). Apparently he is allowed to have airguns, so it's not a trust issue from where I'm standing. Person just need to grow up a little, move out, get his own place and than get a PAL. I understand where this urge to get a dewat is coming from. Having bunch of airguns is not the same as having real thing, even though it's not firing. At first it's fun, but after a week, when all friends seen it and you took it apart 20 times it just becomes boring. Than again, I had no need for having one since my school in the old country had a range :)

Why would anyone in their right mind want to deactivate any firearm? Especially something as benign as an SKS. Go get your PAL, buy a decent gun and if your parents have a problem with guns, MOVE.

Ah 9x19 - my apologies, you are right. I've been incredibly insensitive.

OP, you should go to HiCal, purchase a functional firearm and pay more to deactivate it. Then you can hang it on your wall as statement to your parents. Or, you could save that cash up. And when you can make your own decisions, take the test and buy that gun.

Shilling away,

Give the fella a break he's just a youngin with a passion for old firearms?
Hell this thread is about the same as any other sks thread...

Eg. I want to blow 800$ on a sks to make it uber tactical assault, space shooting, sniper rifle.
LOL Except he just wants one deactivated! Probably still cheaper than a lot of crap I seen bolted down on sks's!

Or better yet he could buy a deactivated ak or krinker from marstar if they still have any, it's a red rifle and should satisfy the com bloc bug. I'm not into dewats but if I was I'd buy an ak47, which is probably easier to find than a dewat sks.

I find it odd how some of you barely read my original post where it clearly states I am underage. Anyways, I want this because my parents are firearm haters and they are ok with me having a deactivated rifle. It's mainly going to be used for showing my parents the rifle so they can get comfortable with it and of course, decoration and hanging it on a wall. I found out that CollectorsSource does deactivation and Al (one of the gunsmiths I believe) is willing to find an SKS and deactivate it for me. Thanks guys for all your help and hopefully I will be able to convince my family to get on board with the idea of guns :)

Marstar does have a deactivated AKS-74U still, but it is a bit pricey at ~1200 dollars.

Get a job and possibly an education
Move out.
Become emancipated minor if still under 19.
Get PAL.
Get real SKS.
Run own life.

My mum suggested I "consider renting" guns at the range until I was "more settled."

I moved across the country 2 months later.

If you read my post, I said I am still young. So I kinda can't do all of them except the first one...

Where do you live? Im in Edmonton Alberta area. If your near me Ill take you down and pick it up for you. We will pull all the functioning parts so you can show your parents it don't work. If you ever want to shoot it Ill take you out and we will put it back together so you can shoot it. Sound good?

Toronto, and either way I wouldn't be interested because my parents most likely wouldn't trust a stranger I found on a gun forum. Emphasis on gun forum, they don't necessarily cherish the fact that I even like guns.

Just a suggestion if you haven't done so already… Be open with your parents, always… They fear what you are not telling them. trust is the key to any relationship. If they can understand it.. then there will be a better chance of them accepting it. Wish you the best of luck finding what you are looking for.

Exactly what I was thinking. The deact AK will be much cooler and actually retain value. Plus they would end up costing him the same.

If I was 16 and unable to have a functional SKS, I would still love to have a de-activated one to display, field strip, and play with. One of the dealers here should be able to help you out. Good luck and welcome to the sport.
