Death of an FN 1A1?

Hold onto it. Let's say the next PC government adopts the CSSA classification standards, then your rifle will have a Non restricted potential if semi auto.

So... I know its a best case scenario... but you realize you will have a $4000+ rifle if that happens.
 
I remember when Dad brought home 10 FN's from work. They were in cardboard boxes in the furnace room for a while, then they weren't.

Dad was an armourer, and brought home some fun stuff.

I had an interesting childhood.

I'd love one, but alas...
 
Not all regiments require the rifle to be dewat'd for acceptance. A great example is the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment located in Belleville Ontario. I spoke recently with their museum curator and they are licensed by the Ontario CFO to accept, store and display functioning prohibs in their museum vault if approached by veterans or civilians for donation. Their vault is tied not only to the Belleville Police dept down the street but also the 21 FLT MP's at CFB Trenton.

I believe you also get a tax receipt as part of the transfer.

Call around before you give your collection the "chop" and you might be surprised.

Good point. Museums are not required to dewat anything (CFO has no say) although a lot do it voluntarily. Remember the Casa Loma break in a few years back?
 
While we talking FN, I was looking at my mags, and one is marked " N SASK R S " any ideas? It is 20Rd c1
What is the going price of a 30 rd.C2 mag, all I se is out of stock where I have looked.

The Harper Govt. had the majority to allow the owners of FN L1A1, HK 91, M14 etc. to shoot their rifles at shooting ranges. Steven Blaney reversed the sig 556, he could have easily inserted the rifles in question but did not even address it.

(My thoughts are the same F#ck the Govt. and those who have hopes that the CPC or any Govt. will once again let you shoot these rifles, Your ass is sucking wind)
 
One reason to consider deactivating now rather than later is that the rules are bound to become more stringent. If you deactivate now, you still have something that looks like a rifle from a distance, and it's off the books. In a few years, the rules may call for it to be cut into pieces no more than 2" long. We can always hope that they will ignore older dewats (as they appear to be doing now) and only apply the new rules to those newly deactivated.

Since I'm looking for ways to salvage some of the value of my prohibs, a couple of things previously mentioned in this thread caught my interest. Someone said that the cost of deactivation might exceed the value of the dewat UNLESS YOU COULD DO IT YOURSELF. Has anyone actually been able to do this and get the result verified, or does the RCMP insist that it be done by a gunsmith they have approved?

Someone else mentioned the possibility of just deactivating the receiver and then putting the undamaged parts back on (or selling them). Has anyone been able to get a bare receiver accepted as a dewat, or do they insist on destroying all the parts mentioned in their guidelines? This could get sticky in the case of an incomplete firearm. Would they insist that you go out and buy the missing parts so they can destroy them? I know it's ridiculous, but we're talking about Canadian firearms regulations.
 
The FAL is my absolutely favourite rifle, I own three of them that are stored at my buddies place in the states. Unfortunately I'm a second class citizen and can't own a live on here in Canada.

I bought an older dewat #### and click Australian one about 6 months ago, I never thought I would ever buy a dewat, but alas. I'm actually rather happy with it, because you can move the bolt, etc etc. I'm not sure that I would buy a completely welded up one, which is the current dewat standard. Hard decision. I hate our gun laws. I have a Valmet M78, Springfield M1A, FAMAE, etc which are all semi-auto .308 and yet the beautiful FAL is prohibited. Sad sad sad state of affairs we have in our country
