December Purchases

the Finns made the most accurate MN, but not the better finsihed ones.

don't forget the Finns never produced their own action, they entirely relied on used Russian surplus actions.

Yeah i know all that but i was just sayin that those finn rifles are goergeous...
I really like those finn stocks, M39's M24's....

I purchased it from a fellow I met through work, actually. The story is that his father, while serving with the 2nd Canadian Infantry Division (he mentionned tanks, so I imagine either the VIII Recconnaisance Regiment, or he actually meant the 2nd Independent Armored Brigade), traded a Luger he'd taken off of a dead German to an American paratrooper for it. He apparently carried it around for the war and got ammo whenever they passed American supply dumps. He then had a Colonel he was friendly with smuggle it home in his bags for him, as he figured they wouldn't be searched.

Now, like most experienced collectors, I tend to take those stories with more than one grain of salt, but the fact this this gun shows none of the immediate postwar upgrades (adjustable sight, bayonet lug) and had never been rebuilt makes me think theres at least the possibility there's some truth to it. After the time I've spent in the army I have trouble imagining a Canadian soldier getting away with carrying a non-standard weapon like that, but I think that Dad maybe did bring it home from the war.

Now this will be the perfect holiday project:

  • cut the funnel at the barrel end off
  • remove the top wood
  • install a real recoil pad
  • drill and install my new varmint scope
  • maybe, if time allows, i can paint the stock with truck bed liner

wouldn't that be cool?

I suspect Polaris was being very, very sarcastic. :D

He's just poking fun at the bubbas....

I should think so, but if he does, I am driving to Etobicoke and kicking him in the testicles.

That is a beautiful piece of would. To buy a piece of rough cut lumber like that nowadays would set you back a good penny.

When my Christmas present to me arrives I'll be throwing up pictures

Does it fit?

Refurbished Austrian M17 helmet with possible Finnish liner.

So your the one who got that helmet...very nice..does it fit ? :D

Naw... its a bit too small. Fat head I suppose. :p

Its will be the basis for my FAKE Polish M17 as used by the 10th Cavalry Brigade (the Black Brigade) in 1939. I'm slowly putting together a display about this brigade and the 10th Dragoons of the Polish Army.

More info on the use of German and Austrian M16/M17 helmets by the Polish Army at the War Relics forum:http://www.warrelics.eu/forum/polis...ish-prewar-helmet-liners-paint-colour-123752/

Here's a pic of what I'm talking about...

Long Rifle Swiss 96/11

After many years, finally got one in anticipation of Swiss Products Coming out in the near future with a non D/T left side scope mount and later on a diopter sight that will attach to the that same mount. Will work for 96/11, 1911 and K11.

Stock is a "bit" rough. :)

But barrel looks superb.

Or you can paint that with green camo paint and a little sticker saying "Unable to aquire after 1985". Still, nice piece of history. Prohib I assume?

Nope. Restricted. Seems like it would be to me too though. Thanks for all the kind words guys - gotta admit that this afternoon I got it out and watched some Band of Brothers before Christmas dinner.

Nice buy diopter. Now I can see grafting of pistol grip you mentioned before-very nice work.
Your 96/11 stock looks exactly like mine M1911.100 years of weekly handling on the ranges would do that-lots of dings but nothing major to worry about.
