Decent .308 rifle?

I’ve got my eye on that 557 .243 now thanks kurgan! I’m honestly thinking of grabbing another 557 in 30-06 too.. I’ve already got all the reloading components.. just need dies haha

I never thought I'd want/need a 243, but my CZ 557 Lux changed my mind. A pleasant shooting and inherently accurate cartridge. Even softer than 7x57. I also ordered a 10-round mag from Tesro, and it's basically the Ranger rifle with a much nicer stock. You can also source a Picatinny rail, but I am quite happy with the factory dovetails and Warne QD rings. Sits lower too.

I bought the last CZ 557 Synthetic S in 30-06 from Tenda. What a great rifle! It's the matching sister to my CZ 557 Synthetic S in 8x57.

Look no further than a stainless Tikka T3X. Light and accurate with a good adjustable trigger right out of the box.

If however you have a desire to tinker and spend money, then some flavor of Remington 700 will do nicely.

With this ammo shortage and the vast supply of 308 cartridges still available I’m looking to pick up a 308 bolt action rifle. Not looking to break the bank as I also am going to be doing a long range build for a 300winmag.
However I am looking for something that is nice to shoot, accurate and reliable. No savage axis type stuff.

I'd buy a T3 if buying new.

Cheapest Tikka long action 308 for $1000+ with their cheap synthetic stock and $100 cheap plastic mags...not my first pick.
I'd chase down a short action Xbolt with nice wood for the same price, still cheap plastic mags but they don't cost $100.

Indeed, I didn’t think I’d go down to .243 but my 6.5x55 m96 sporter is a real treat to shoot so I figure a decent .243 would be nice.. if I could find anything cz in 6.5x55 even with a beat up stock I’d consider buying that aswell.

I'll throw in my two cents, and many might have a laugh :)

However, I would recommend a Mossberg MVP Scout!

I do have higher end 308's of the CZ and tricked out HOWA variety, but when it comes to grab n' go afternoon out chasing deer, handy truck rifle, I grab the MVP Scout first! They do come with a low end Optics type packages (mine was originally) and I've had fantastic results harvesting both bear and deer using Hornady ammo, even with the original package optic (Chinese made mil dot).

They take SR-25 pattern magazines, and I can confirm they take M1A pattern magazines as well, and feed flawlessly from both after a thorough breaking in.

16.25" heavy bull barrel with birdcage.

Mine has factory peep sights which is another nice feature as a backup.

The bolt needs breaking in, and can be a tad rough at the beginning, but the fit and finish is a solid, reliable working man's rifle and the patented Lightning Trigger advertised by Mossberg is a treat to shoot.

Yes, she's accurate with the right ammo. The full length picatinny on top, coupled with factory peep sights is an added bonus.

Aesthetically nothing special, but still well priced I do believe, they do go on sale (picked mine up from a site sponsor oh, 3-4 years ago now for 759.00) and has yet to let me down.

I see site sponsors have them on for 799.95 without the optic and forward mounted irons!

Ammo is key here with the MVP Scout, much like a high end truck without winter tires during an Alberta blizzard. What you feed her is what you get! If yourre looking for results, reputable manufacturers in terms of ammo. Plinking at 100+ meters and happy to hit the gong? Hirtenberger surplus works just fine!

Can't argue with a tikka t3 in 308. They did do a special run of some with a gorgeous wood stock, missed out on that. I have a remington model 7 in 308 and absolutely love that gun. You would have to find used but it is a nice package in a 308.

Rifles in .308 Win I've been fond of & either still have or would acquire again:

Rem 700; Win Model 70 & 88; Husqvarna H-5000; Tikka 595; Savage 88; Browning Abolt composite stalker.
