grunts
I've played with deer grunts a lot. Here's what I've seen.
1. a medium pitch grunt will stop does in their tracks. Same for coyotes. Haven't seen a response from a buck more than a head raise.
2. a deep pitch grunt will make a medium size buck drop it's head and skulk off quietly.
3. a higher pitch grunt seems to do absolutely nothing that I've seen.
4. tried 2 different brands, they both sounded quite close, and worked the same.
5. found this site, gonna play some more this fall:

6. I'm sure there's a way to make this work, with all the different responses I've seen, it seems to be a matter of not so much wether they work, but When to use what grunt.
Don't know if I'll ever get it figured out, but it's sure fun trying.
Biggest response we got was when son and I were hunting coyotes with a "fawn in distress" call. Accidentally called in a herd of about a dozen does, and they came right to us, I mean Right to us. We had to stand up so we wouldn't get stepped on, and we weren't in camo, just laying on the snow!
Have fun.
