I'm sure the commie round is adequate for deer no doubt, but ballistically it makes the 30-30 look like a magnum.
Really? From what I've read the 7.62x39 has a very slight advantage over the 30-30win.

The SKS is a fine deer gun inside 150 meters. Go for it!

Have a look at hodgdon .com load data centre. The commie advantage was spitzer bullets for flatter trajectory, the Hornady FTX takes care of that issue very well and sends a 160gr bullet at 125 gr commie velocities.

I think an Sks would be fine for deer at a range upto 150yds with te right hunting ammo. The real question is, why would u want to lug the beast of an Sks with you into the bush. That gun is HEAVY in my opinion. Lol
i watched a show a while back it had these native looking guys shooting caribou with sks in siberia. It didnt say anything about range but it was in dense woods so I dont imagine it was that far but shows that people who need an absolute "survival/food gun" can and do depend on the sks
Good choice for the Arctic Rangers?
