Yes, I forgot to mention, I was out of my stand addressing a nature call at the time and only had 5 bullets on me.

I was more than glad that the second one hit home as he was travelling in my general diredction and I had three bullets left.... :)
 
Last year's deer.

I've always used .303 LEs (usually sporterized) for hunting moose and caribou.
Here's a picture of a doe I took last year with my US Property Savage No.4 Mk.I* sniper clone.

I've used as my oldest ones game getters
model 1871 calvery carbine single shot in 43 mauser -1 white-tail,1 mulie
model 1884 43 mauser -2 mulies
1897 krag 6.5x55
1896 schmidt rubin 7.5 swiss
lotsa 303's
lotsa mod 98 8mm's
and even a sks have all taken deer over the years by me
Krag and 1871 carbine are favorites

6 or 7 deer between them. I always use one of my milsurp rifles if I can (no milsurp shotgun yet).
 
I got a m38 swede 2 years ago for my daughter as a first rifle. I figured it would be irresponsible to send a kid on their first hunt without confirming it was a reliable firearm/caliber combination. In the past 2 seasons- 4 deer, 3 coyotes, 2 grouse, 1 bear and a cow elk have fallen to it. It appears reliable but think more testing is in order, just to be sure :D

Years ago I hunted moose with a Sudanese AR10. No moose with it but still...
Lots of deer with No4 LE's. Sure miss that AR10 though. I was planning on using my FN49 this year but life got in the way of hunting. Next year fer sure.
 
just got my pics back from a recent doe hunt in the caribou. Rifle is a fully customized (by me) formerly bubba'd ( by someone else), enfield shtle III*
many deer have fallen to this rifle since i gave her a home and brought her back to life. Won't hunt deer with anythin else ;)
