Well, whitetail deer season opens in Manitoba on Monday and I'm going Russian this year. Taking my 1952 Polish M44 and my 1935 91/30. I know that quite a few of us milsurp collectors hunt.

I have taken deer with a M38 Swede, a 1935 Peruvian, M48A Yugo, SKS, K98 and of course a Lee Enfield. Am I the only one who thinks Lee Enfields should be mandatory in Canada?

The M44 has taken a black bear, and the M96 swede took out a wild boar.

If I can work up a good load and shoot well next year I am thinking of taking out the Berthiers. The carbine would make a hell of a good bush gun. Also want to shoot something with one of the carcano's.

What's everyone using this year?

If you're going to use open sights at relatively short ranges, say under 200m, the Vergueiro rifles, converted to 8x57, are nice handling, balance well and accurate as far as your eyes will keep the sights in focus.

I've used mine for close quarter creek bank hunting because of its easy handling attributes.

At the moment, I only have an Mosin Nagant 91/30, but if I was going to hunt with a milsurp, it would be an Enfield No.5 or sportered No.4

:needPics:

I'm really really hoping to go out this wednesday and I'm planning on taking this:

Any new guys want to guess what it is? (all you regulars give the new guys a chance to guess before spoiling it:D)

I'll likely be taking my '43 Long Branch and my son will likely have my '50 for the season. Although he's kind of partial to the rifle that looks a lot like Wally's, being his first year out I'd rather see him with a normal bolt action rather than the straight pull. I might take it out myself at one point however.

this and this (without the field dressing rigs)

Or this if it doesn't sell

Got a buck yesterday. Not a big guy, just a spike with a few small tines, probably two or three years old. Should be good eating though. The M44 aquitted itself quite well. Bayonet raised a few eyebrows.

I lent my 1954 Lee Enfield #4 sporter to a friend of mine. He got a 3x4 buck on Monday.

Sorry, still no camera

You do realize it's because I wasn't there, right? I'm a curse! Sounds good, though, can I come over to help you eat him?

Hahahaha Nova Scotian forests must be full of Nutz with milsurps during deer season.

Normmus, do you reload your own 7.62x54R or are you using Prvi SP's from teh Army/Navy store? It's the only source of factory 7.62 I know of in the HRM.
