I'm waiting on my Dominion arms 'Outlaw' and I have plans for a pretty complete teardown for inspection/repair of fit & finish.

Apparently these are shipping with an overabundance of packing 'oil'. I was planning to use a degreaser such as BrakeKleen or similar product with a ton of rags to assist in its removal. The blueing has been described as 'very deep' (see link below), but I still have some concerns as to what an industrial product like BrakeKleen will do to it.

Any thoughts or alternative product suggestions? Special procedures to follow? Should I start with a commercial parts cleaner/sink running conventional solvent though its pump?

TIA.

I don't know how thick and sticky the Outlaw grease is. FWIW, I don't think I used much more than Ballistol on my Dominion Arms Grizzly.

I like part and tool cleaner from Can. Tire in the aerosol can, then I use compressed air to blow it out. It doesn't seem to have harmed any finishes yet on the steel or wood finishes.

Try Birchwood Casey Gunscrubber. You can even get a synthetic safe version. Spray it down, it dries clean, oil and go.

I've used Brake Clean for years on every gun I've bought. Never had any problems. Just make sure and use a brand name. I use Kleen-Flo 313 currently. I buy it by the case for under $2 a can. Watch out for Gunk,it stinks, and does'nt work as good I found.

Thanks

Thanks for all of these fine responses. When the Outlaw gets here I'll be proceeding with a lot more confidence than I had yesterday.
