So what were the weights of the pulled bullets? If it was 147 plus or minus .2 I see only one reason why you didn't make minor... and the reason isn't the projectile. If the weight was 146 on both pulled bullets you have a valid reason to name Xmetal. If you weren't fast enough it is 100%your fault.

it is their ammo not just the projectile. For those asking the weight of the projectile was 146.1 I had a power factor of 123 at this level 3.

One reason I will never buy or shoot X-Metal stuff. If you own a box of their pills, weigh a few handfulls and see if they are at the marked weight. You may be in for a surprise.

What pf were you shooting at home?
Do not, I say again, do not go for the lowest pf you can get away with. Get your self or have a friend that has a chrono and develope a load for your choise of firearm.
I would recommend you go for a pf of at least 10 above what you need for your division.

Just a thought.

It was pretty hot this weekend where I was. Some powders drop off in PF when the temps get really high

Again he bought a box of their ammo, he did not load anything.

I juste researched effects of cylinder gap on many forums.
It is ''claimed'' that cylinder gap can rob you as little as 25 FPS to as much as 75FPS.

Even if your revolver gap would rob you of 25FPS, that's 3.6 PF, and was enough to make minor.

I like their 147 gr Paragon bullets but I reload and chrono. I shot Provincials last year with a fella that didn't make minor with his XMetal ammo although there were others that had no issues. I think the take away here is to know your PF before going to the match.

Revolvers are a challenge to get consistency in the first place..how clean, how dirty has massive effect on pressure lost at cylinder gap. There will certainly be a plus/minus on bullet weight unless you want to pay ten times the price.. 146.1 is to be expected.. that's why you have the option of weighing more than one.

So even 146 grn so 845 fps it chrony at? Did you get someone else to try to find out what they chrony them at?

Never understand why these people load to bare min. I run my ammo at 130 PF.

We chrono'ed everyones ammo at a black badge course one time just for fun and the xmetal 147 ammo and that steel cased 115 Win ammo didnt make 125pf, gun will make a difference too, chamber and rifling, ammo that was 133pf in one of my guns was 146pf in my stock 2, i had to drop my load from 4.1gr to 3.4gr and still had a PF of 136 this weekend gone by, really hot weather tho and WW231/HP38 has a tendency to creep up in the heat, may drop to 3.2gr and see what that says.

That's quite the difference in velocity between the two guns!

By any chance, do you remember what your velocity spread was for a single gun? Just curious, because I was wondering if, by coincidence, you happened to have some low charges in the batch of ammo that happened to be in the mag for the 133pf gun for testing.

Just a FYI, I had two 5" guns, one a M&P and the other a 1911 9mm and the M&P was 90FPS slower with the same load from the same batch. Can be some very big difference between guns.

Sucks that this happened to you JBD but your takeaway from this experience should be that no one is going to take care of you match ammo except for you, crony and case gauge/chamber checking it yourself is the only way to be sure.

I guess that's one big reason to reload your own ammo;

You are 100% in charge of your own quality control.

Buying off the shelf ammo; You get whatever they consider is good enough.
