1911 in .40 S&W..............

I'd look at the STI Trojan, I believe it comes in .40 S&W as one of the ctg options. If I went that route I'd order it via Armco, site sponsor.

+1 on Armco.

I have a .40 STI Trojan that I bought from Armco and it is a keeper. Gunnar put on an extended mag well and did a great trigger job on it. Great gun and Gunnar was great to deal with.

I suggest if you go with the Trojan that you look into Cobra mags from Tripp Research. Make sure to tell them it is for a Trojan when you order them...

which .40?

I'm thinking of getting a 1911 type pistol in 40. Any suggestions re maker?
Price?
thanks

I would first ask yourself:

1) What is your budget?
2) Do you prefer a single or double stack?
3) Do you like Blued, Parkerized, hard chrome, stainless steel, etc., finishes?
4) What are you using the .40 for? I.E. Target, IPSC, etc...

It's just a general inquiry. Looking for a heads up on anything out there.
I'm leaning towards the Kimber, it's just under the grand mark.

Double stack or single?
Time frame?
Geezzz, marstar is going to be getting alot of my money if the come through with these and the M4's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

STI Trojan's are very nice, regardless of calibre, but the Kimber Target model, particularly in stainless, are also a great choice in a 40S&W 1911.

Does Tripp prepare STI Trojan magazines differently than than they do for magazines for other makes or models?

Now hear this.

With a longer sight radius than the 1911, and a barrel better than 5 1/4 inches, with an exceptional 3.5 pound trigger, and the easiest replaceable parts in the industry at a very competitive cost, the GLOCK 35 is the way to go.
The Glock 35 is an outstanding pistol. While I still like the 1911 as a very versatile platform, the Glock 35 is cost efficient and accurate too.
Skip the Chi-com junk, buy a Glock 35.

Dark International

Dark International has a Chinese 1911 in .40, supposedly made just for them:

I read on a forum (can't remember where) that if you order the Cobra mags for the Trojan to let Tripp know and he will adjust the follower to increase reliability.

I had a few problems with the 5 metalform mags that I got with the gun (the bottoms kept blowing off). STI sent me 5 replacement mags all of which run great now. If I hadn't got my mags replaced I would have went with the Cobra mags. As far as I know Virgil Tripp is the "T" in STI.

I can't say enough good things about STI myself... I have a 9mm RangerII and it's by far the smoothest semi I've ever fired. The slide glides on the frame like butter and the trigger is just perfect. Feeds deadly reliable as well.

I'd pick STI over any of the other equally priced 1911 manufacturers on the market, any day of the week.

X2 if you want a single stack. I also like the Kimbers but the STI's are the cat's @ss

Have you verified that the Kimber is actually available? EROC1 here on CGN was recently looking for a Kimber in .40 and couldn't find one (ended up with a Para and is very happy with it). And now if you go on Kimber's website there aren't any models shown in .40 anymore. Don't know what's up but it almost looks like Kimber is dropping the .40. That's kind of hard to believe given the popularity of the round, but there have been reports of reliability issues with Kimbers chambered in .40.
