Wow... the before pictures... I've never seen an uglier 1911 :)
Good job ~

Worth? Probably same price you were offering to sell it for before... just my opinion.

Congrats though on bringing it back to respectable condition.

in the previous state, the gun must had kicked like a horse with all the weight up top!

great job. looks better than factory parkerize. very stealth looking

I'd put the old grips back on if it were mine.
Nice refinish - I sold one similar last year (on the EE) for $650 to a member who promptly put it back on the EE for a couple hun more :kickInTheNuts:

I was looking at the before picture. Is the front strap stippeled? That may be the reason why it did not sell before. Just my 2 cents...

well i had this up for sale in the ee last month for 600 obo and no takers. as they all wanted the sights off and to make it back to original. the price was right but nobody wanted it so i did it myself. replaced the target sights with some new originals from marstar and had every little piece glass beaded and parkerized. my friend gave me a norinco wrap around grip and i think it looks a little better. what is it worth now?

Nice job on the 1944 Colt frame. How's the script on the other side of the slide?

But since you've 'restoed' it back to a USGI configuration you need to ditch the Norc grips and put back the GI plastic stock back on.

I sold this restoed USGI 1911A1 on the EE awhile back for ~ $750:

If the front strap has been modified it ruins most of the value for a collector. But as a shooter it is still well worth 600-700 Just my opinion.

If I would have known you were looking for a rear site I could have sent you an original Colt.

The gun still looks way better than it did before.

+1....

Just to build on that, once it has been refinished it is no longer a 'collector' piece. Best described, when refinished, a USGI pistol is still a representation piece of the period, but somewhere between a collector and a shooter. That's how I see it anyway.

+1 on that, too.

I'd much rather see a USGI 1911A1 restoed back to 'correct' configuration, albeit non-original, than look at it as an abomination that some one had 'done up' for target shooting, etc. Although, I do know that was done 'back in the day' when GI pistols were seemingly plentiful and cheap.

NAA,

You bring up a good point. I always try to buy original examples, but there seems to be alot of GI 1911s floating around that have been abused or mixmastered. These are the one I end up buying most of the time now.

If it has no collector value because of no finish or mixmaster parts, I have no problem with refinishing them back to original spec.

I guess it is the same as the desporterizing that is going on for Enfields etc...
