I agree the Norc wraparounds, although quite 'functional' don't do anything to capture the nostalgia of it's looks. Some double diamond hardwood stocks would really dress it up.
Even better yet, some plain checkered hardwood stocks would make it look like a very early USGI 1911A1.

that is due to the heat treated front that used to be common. the color of the parking always will depend on the carbon in the steel. higher carbon, darker parkerizing. if you look closely at the other one someone restored it is the same.
Had to do with the prep on the steel in that area. On most USGI pistols you will see this on the front of the slide and sometimes around the slide stop notch. It is usually quite subtle in original finish guns but for some reason becomes quite pronounced when they are refinished.
