My brother (Dave_D) ended up buying a Derya DY-BA 9mm bolt action, so I probably won't be getting one myself since I have access to his.
We got it out for its first range trip today and thought I'd share our initial impressions for anyone who's considering one.
He mounted a Firefield 1-6x24 scope, and we started sighting it in with Federal 115gr FMJ. To be honest, we could barely keep it on a sheet of paper and were starting to wonder what was going on. We switched over to Sellier & Bellot 115gr, and the difference was immediate. The rifle settled right down and was consistently shooting 2–3" groups at 50 yards. We also tried CCI 124gr, which grouped a little larger than the S&B but was still perfectly acceptable.
One thing we did notice was some minor feeding issues. It happened with both the factory Glock-pattern magazines and Magpul Glock magazines. It almost seemed like the rounds were presenting too high and occasionally wanted to nose up during feeding. It wasn't constant, and it may very well improve as the rifle breaks in, but it's something to be aware of. For casual bench shooting it was only a minor annoyance, but if you were planning to use it for action-style shooting, it could be more of a concern until sorted out.
A couple of other observations: the magazines are a pretty tight fit in the magwell, and the magazine release feels a bit flimsy. A release more like the one on the Henry Homesteader would have been a nice touch.
Overall though, we both came away impressed. The rifle looks great, feels well put together, and was genuinely enjoyable to shoot. As long as you keep in mind that it seems to be a little ammo-sensitive and may need some break-in regarding feeding, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone who's been on the fence about buying one.
