Derya MK-12 range report

Just committed to purchase a new green one. Adding a spare 2 round and 2 spare 5 round magazines and just waiting for final price quote before paying.
Had to sell my Kriss Vector to pay for it but since I haven't shot that one in a few months I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. Pretty excited to get my new toy now :)
Think it's either getting my Aimpoint PRO or the T1.

Edit,
Paid for, will be shipped tomorrow :)

Which dealer sells spare mags? The two I have contacted have no spares. Whomever has the extra Mags gets the whole order!

This is my starting setup for 3 gun. Luckily my magazine belt clips space them out perfectly...I just had to tape them together. So I will start with 11 rounds on the gun, and up to 3 more individual mags on my belt.

A side note...if you have the charging handle on the left side, it does not seem possible to tape them side by side without impeding the ejection port or charging handle. If you have the charging handle on the right side, you should be able to tape them side by side with the right mag offset low. Taping them end to end works, but looks ridiculous.

Also...this is a super cool gun and I love it. :D

I did some patterning with the Federal Flitecontrol Buckshot today. I was hoping for quite a bit tighter at longer range, but it is a hell of a lot better than standard stuff. For perspective, 50Y with Flitecontrol looks closer to 15Y with standard Federal buckshot. All shot out of the Derya with cylinder choke. Cardboard is 24 x 24".

For perspective, this is standard Federal 00 Buckshot at 15Y. Cardboard was not clean before this shot...but the target was. That is 5 of 9 pellets on an the paper target at 15 yards.

I also tried at 100Y landing 3 pellets on the cardboard. Picture didn't save for some reason but I still have the target.

Why are you using the cylinder choke for testing buck? I would try the modified and full to see if you get the results you're looking for. The only thing I'd use cylinder for is rifled slugs.

Contact Tony at T&T arms, he had them last time I talked to him.

I'm using a cylinder choke because I want the gun setup for tight patterns with buckshot and good accuracy with slugs at the same time. The Flitecontrol stuff is designed for cylinder bore. A tighter choke would strip off the wad and defeat the purpose. I haven't done my own testing, but from what I can find online, I might get comparable buckshot patterns from a full choke. The safety of shooting slugs from a full choke seems to be a subject of debate, but in the Derya manual it warns not to use anything but the cylinder choke for slugs. Maybe the gas system is the main concern there...3" slugs blew mine apart as I posted earlier in this thread. At the very least, it seems accuracy would suffer.

A warning to those looking to run this gun in competition: unload your mags completely after every stage. When a mag hits the ground, it's easy for remaining shells to "reorganize" themselves...where the rim of the top shell is BEHIND the following round...guaranteeing a FTF. I had several FTF my last match, and this is what I attribute it to.

I've shot 3" BB goose loads through mine with the modified choke and had no problems, I haven't tested much with the extended extra full choke I have but it does shoot light Federal field loads and 2 3/4 00 buck with it no problem.
Do you need to shoot slugs and buckshot in your comp? I'm guessing 3-gun. other than the FTF from the shells rearranging themselves when you dropped the mag how has it done during comps?

I have 2 weeks of vacation coming up and have been collecting large pieces of cardboard, hopefully I can get some time to play with different loads and chokes when I've had enough of the honey-do list.

I REALLY want one of these now :D

If you're near Edmonton PM me and you can come out to my place and have a good look at my MK-12 and run as many rounds through it as you bring with you. I might even clean and lube it for the first time since it arrived and I gave it a full strip/clean/lube :p

Yeah, I dunno. The gas system is the only reason I can think that they don't recommend anything other than the cyl choke for slugs.

All we shoot for shotgun loads in local 3 gun is birdshot. I've reviewed my videos from my last match, and I think I can only blame one failure on the mag stacking issue. I had a few FTF that I could probably blame on the gun....but they were pretty fast to clear. Just push bolt forward. I also had a double feed that cost me some time. So quite a few failures in my first match with it. Also the 5 round magazine is not very conducive to stage planning. Once you miss a target, even less so. I felt like it needed a clean before the match, which never happened.

Outside of a match, to my memory, I only had one FTF with a slug while monopoding on the magazine out of a couple hundred rounds. I think the gun is reliable with heavier loads, but might show issues with light target loads. I'm undecided whether I will run it in competition again, but I have confidence in it otherwise.

Has anyone tried to install an AR ambi safety?
I havent had the chance to have my hands on one to see yet.
Cheers
Jeff

I'm going to guess it's not going to fit based on so far not being able to directly exchange anything else AR other than a grip without a beavertail. I've tried AR buffer tubes and backplates and only one backplate would fit and I had to modify it to get it to work.
Try it and let us know :)

I'm sure the dimension are different for the safety selector. I wish these had a much more positive detent, I may pull it apart and see if there is something I can do. Roll pins don't make me a happy camper, but it is what it is.
