Derya MK-12 range report

Sorry. I'm sure it is a fantastic gun to hunt with. Only reason I said that is because I personally don't want the extra attention.

That's half the reason I can't wait to take mine hunting! I hope I get paid a visit by a game warden!!! They need to see these out in the field looking like an AR15 and nothing horrible happening!!! The stupid stigma of the look of guns like this needs to be done away with!!!! The more people see guns like this out hunting, the faster they will be accepted as the new look of a modern hunting rifle/shotgun! Hope mine throws slugs nicely! Taking it deer hunting this fall!!!

You're doing the lord's work, friend.

Agreed. It is a political statement that all of us should try to make if we own one and can legally hunt with it.

Bring a hard copy of the FRT.

Right there with you guy's, this year it's the Derya MK 12 and XCR's.

We need more people like you :)
I don't want the attention and I'm also way too practical, I'll take my Versa-max hunting just because it's so much lighter and I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that it is going to work when I ask it to.
I've been through the hunting with black rifles phase and it passed quickly after spending the day lugging around a 10-12 pound rifle knowing I have a 7 pound Rem 700 sitting at home. I do enjoy taking my non restricted black rifles out into the wild but I just don't find them to be the best tool for hunting. I doubt I'll even bother to take my Modern Hunter in 6.5CM with me this year for deer, my Rem 700 in 7-08 will do the same job and be much less weight and I don't care if it gets some bumps and bruises.

My MK-12 may just go with me to take some geese this fall though just for fun, I have an extended extra full choke for it and with 3 inch BB it should do a decent job. I've been practicing a little trying to shoot some clays with it to get used to hitting a moving target with the red dot.

To each their own though, glad we have guys willing to take some heat and inconvenience explaining things to the CO's

I don't bother carrying FRT's they can find it themselves. If they run the make model and serial number and it doesn't pop as Restricted in the system it's a non restricted firearm, it only takes them a couple minutes.

Agreed. I do take a copy of the magazine exemption for the M1 Garand and the page in the regs. stating that the 8 round enbloc in that rifle is ok for hunting though, just in case!

I always take up my Rob Arms XCR in 7.62x39 as well for different situations and different needs in the different blinds. I also like taking a modern all metal and composite rifle out with me when the weather is wet as I don't like taking out any of my vintage Remington model 8's or 14's in the crappy weather.

Just got one of these a few weeks ago and not overly impressed, I'm hoping someone can explain to my why mine is being a #### LOL. First time shooting it, 3 rounds of 2-3/4 Federal #7.5 and a FTE, 5 rounds of 3" Black Cloud BB and no problem, 5 more of the little shells and again, a FTE or FTF, cant remember, then 5 more of the light stuff and all 5 fired just fine.
Fast forward to today and almost every 5 round mag with the Federal 2-3/4 stuff was a night mare. The first trigger pull would be no fire, almost every time. clear that shell and then it would fire but sometime stove pipe, and some times not eject the spent shell at all, and on some occasions, load the next shell but not fire that shell. In total today I put 5 boxes (125 shells) through it and although I love the look and the super low recoil, it just seems to not like the target loads at all.

Any suggestions? And yes, I stripped it down and wiped it all clean and put a very light lube on it, as in lube it and wipe is down with a small oil rag, basically barely leaving a film on it for the most part.

Did you completely strip and clean the bolt? Could be a bunch of gunk in the firing pin channel. You may need to throw a few more boxes of the heavy stuff through it to break the recoil spring in, not uncommon in semi-auto shotguns.

The only thing I didnt take apart was the bolt LOL, I'll do that when I clean it but it didnt look like it was cakes with lube or oil when I had it out of the gun, thanks, I'll try that.

I've shot 3" BB goose loads through mine with the modified choke and had no problems, I haven't tested much with the extended extra full choke I have but it does shoot light Federal field loads and 2 3/4 00 buck with it no problem.
Do you need to shoot slugs and buckshot in your comp? I'm guessing 3-gun. other than the FTF from the shells rearranging themselves when you dropped the mag how has it done during comps?

I have 2 weeks of vacation coming up and have been collecting large pieces of cardboard, hopefully I can get some time to play with different loads and chokes when I've had enough of the honey-do list.

If you're near Edmonton PM me and you can come out to my place and have a good look at my MK-12 and run as many rounds through it as you bring with you. I might even clean and lube it for the first time since it arrived and I gave it a full strip/clean/lube :p

I have my own mk12 in edmonton, but can i bring it by your place to shoot it :D hahaha

I would buy as many different brands of light birdshot that I could and range test them. It may have a preference.

I have a cheaper SA15 and it FTEs most birdshot except for Federal Field and Range 7.5s which feed and extract 100%. Slugs and buck are 100% too.

I picked up my mk12 in green a month or so ago and i love it. I have absolutely no use for it, but i love it. I've put target load, steel bird shot, 00 buck, and slugs through it. Couldn't be happier.

No info in the manual on how to take the bolt apart but its pretty basic, like most bolts I guess haha. Cleaned everything and put a light coat of oil on everything, very light, then put it back together. Cleaned the receiver a little better and put a couple drops of gunslick oil on the bolt carrier, seems to feel a LOT smoother now, I'll try and get some rounds out of it soon and see how she cycles now.

Sure, PM me if you want to line up schedules, I need an excuse to get out and shoot, I haven't made noise out here for a month.

Just run heavier loads through it for the first 3 or 4 boxes then try the light cheap stuff. Mine used to have an issue once in a while with the really light cheap loads but now that it's got a few boxes through it it's eating the cheap stuff reliably.
