Was this video cruel?

  • No, it was a feral hog hunt. That's the way they go sometimes; no problem here!

A friend of mine killed a Wild Boar in North Texas a few years back with 8 inch tusks! (btw, if you think this monster was mean, whoa, a full blooded Boar can get just as big, and is twice as mean) They will hang out in tall Buffalo grass, and some of the people who have been killed take out the one they see, and get broadsided by another one a few yards away that they didn't.

First of all you don't know what in the h*ll you're talking about. This IS a FERREL HOG! I live in this area. I have hunted them. I KNOW! You're a CANADIAN and have probably never even seen one before. Don't speak unless you know what the heck you're talking about, and you obviously don't!

It was a bad hunt, but it was far from cruelty to animals. Ever not gotten a heart shot on a deer? It take you at least as long as it took that pig to die to run to the deer, and deliver a second shot. You guys who are commenting have never hunted these animals, and I'm starting to believe you've never hunted at all. What do you think hunting is? Having tea with animals? Yes, this hunt was a c*ck-up, but I've heard of far worse. And YES, all-in-all, it was FUNNY! Man, some of you Canadian (not all) live mild, sheltered lives!

So you are the EXPERT domestic pig "hunter"...
first let me tell you, that you are an extremly lousy shot!!!
you better go back and practice with 22's...
If this would be a wild hog, you would not be able to approach him this close without getting charged by the animal.
Yes I live in Canada (what a great place to live), before that I hunted wild boar in Europe for twenty years.
There, Hill billy expert hunters like you would make an easy target for the Boars.
this video is the proof, that handgun hunting is not so a good idea after all.

You can't be a Canadian. I have talked to several Canadians on this site, and while I have disagreed on occasion with some of them, you take the cake. You sound French to me. :)

Yes, nobody has ever "surprised" a game animal. That has NEVER happened before. Also, have you ever fired under stress like that before? When death was 12 feet away and closing? I'll tell you something, it's a lot different from shooting on the range, or firing from a Deer Blind. That guy in the video did alright.

I'd love to see you in the same scenario with a bolt action rifle, and a round that would make a surgical over-penetration at that range. You'd be a dead man.

Errata: That was a FERREL HOG, not a domesticated PIG! There is a WORLD of difference!

Oh god, the PC Police are in force. You can't ever laugh at something you're not supposed to anymore. I'm sorry I posted this now. I'm sure PETA will be along shortly.

X2. I thought it was cute. All the experts on internet forums have mostly never even shot an animal themselves, or they would know that when you knock an animal down it's sometimes hard to tell whether movement is the death rattle or signal of a wounded animal. I don't think the shooters did too badly considering they are quite young men and probably not overly experienced. The hog was dead in seconds not minutes. Big deal.

He made that animal suffer for quite a while - that's no way to hunt, in my opinion. If he was that close, he had ample opportunity to take it down quick.

I'm no hunter, but I remember being told once to treat your game with respect, but I guess that isn't the case everywhere...

I agree to the fullest.

I'd say any wild hog of that size killed in under a minute is done quickly.

Any of you know pig farmers...? They kill domesticated pigs on a daily basis, and if they are shot with a .22LR, there is all of like, 2 "spots" on the hogs head that will, most of the time, guarantee an instant kill shot. These are domesticated pigs, that you can put the muzzle of the gun against their head if you need to.

.22 = .038 square inches surface area
SD = .216
ME = 120 foot lbs

.50 AE = .19625 square inches surface area
SD = .186
ME = 1230 foot lbs

So the .50 has 10.25 times the muzzle energy, with 5x the frontal area, with a lower sectional density. If a .22 with perfect placement doesn't always instant kill, then maybe the .50 AE is not the ideal round for 1 shot hunting kills on a pig...

Oh, about those tusks, they don't just stab them into you. They stab them in, then tear them out, perpendicular to the direction of the tusk. If you have an 8 inch tusk, you will have an 8 inch tear. The height of their head also causes them to normally hit your upper leg or groin. Good chance of death when hit.

That was DISTURBING. Idiots like this give a bad name to legitimate hunters out there who respect their prey. This was nothing but aunty mom and uncle daddy types reinforcing negative stereotypes.

Canadian Hunters; is this what you have to put up with? (I.e. the "don't shoot bambi" comments on here?) I'm so sorry. Please, come to Texas. These people have never hunted in their life, yet they are here telling all of us "how" it should be done. They know nothing!

Get me citizenship. :D

It was dead jerky! You don't know about residual muscle reflex activity after brainwave function has ceased? That Hog was dead for sure within 50+ seconds of the first shot being fired, and he was doomed from the 3rd shot on! MY GAAAAAAAAWWWD; you' re driving me insane with your ignorance! I've got to find a rock to bang my head against now.

It may be a ferrel hog, but it is certainly nothing like a wild boar. It's a domesticated pig that now lives in the wild. It may have been born in the wild, and lived it's whole life there, but it is not what I'd call wild.

At the beginning of the video they're walking after the pig as it walks away from them. No wild animal will walk away from a human it deems as a threat. Bears, moose, deer, all wild animals - they run away from you or at you. This pig was not acting like a wild animal.

Since they had the opportunity, the kill shot should've been delivered a bit sooner. I don't think anybody is denying this.

As for the canadian and/or french bashing. I don't know what you're trying to prove with that. If you offer a video on the internet, expect peoples opinion whether you agree or not.

After you're done with that, see if you have any residual muscle reflex activity after your brainwave function has ceased. :rolleyes:

Spoken like a true liberal. They love animals; can't stand people. It's a darn good think you have a grocery store. The day that isn't available, you'll probably be eating people, and proclaiming your moral superiority; Madness! I don't tell you how to do yoga, or eat tofu, or sashay around in your designer slacks made by slave labor in Indonesia do I? What makes you think that you can give me advice on how to hunt? At least when I kill, it's honest, a game animal, and over in less than a minute. Guys like you will keep a 6 year old chained to a sowing machine for a lifetime, but so long as you don't "see" it; it's ok.

btw, ever eat veal, or any "Kosher" meat? Heck, ever eaten pork from your local meat packing industry? Look it up, and tell me what's "inhumane" about this video.

That wasn't muscle reflex. It's called agonal breathing. It's what happens as the animal is dying. The animal is technically still alive, but very close to death. It is fully unconscious at this point.

So to summarize, yes it is still alive when it moves (tries to breathe) like that, but no it is not suffering because it has been unconscious for a while.

I've killed thousands of pigs and other animals in the name of science. It is never pleasant.

Haha, very funny :p

I don't have any beef with hunting; my father and grandfather hunted, and my great-grandad was a game warden. You said it yourself: when you kill, it's honest and over quick... Would you have taken that wild pig out the same way they did? Probably not!

Now quit interrupting my hippie hackey-sack session!! :mad:;)

Yes, that HOG deserved to DIE, and I hope it burns in HELL!

Didn't bother me all that much. Hey, death sucks, and it's not always instant with your loved ones by your side.

Yea, the shots weren't perfect, but the big stuff can take a bit longer to expire. After 2-3 shots, more in the same area don't do much, so a good head shot was needed.

The worst part IMO was when the hunter foolishly touched the mouth of the hog while it was still twitching.

Whether anyone thinks the hunt as shown was right or wrong, yay or nay... walking my prey down seems like a pretty boring way to hunt. (Although an efficient way to get some bacon, and I do love bacon.... and the butt wearing the bacon panties below... mmmm)
