So I have had an infatuation with this pistol which pretty much stems from the movie, "Snatch" (Even though I believe his was a .44 mag DE in actuality).

I bought one chambered in .50ae...because, well, why be half-assed about it. When I pulled it out of the case, I literally began cracking up. The size of the grip, the sheer weight of the beast, it just screamed impracticality. Totally awesome and completely intimidating at the same time.

I can get a really good push/pull grip on the pistol despite my small hands, which I was surprised about, and properly gripping it seems to lessen the impact of the 4lb 9oz weight this particular model has.

Filed strip is remarkably easy...just as easy as the glock, and maybe a bit easier as the barrel/slide release lever is easier to manipulate on the DE (for me anyway). The gas operated mechanic is fascinating. I haven't done a detail strip yet, but I will be in the next couple of days to get at the bolt assembly for a good cleaning.

Given the price of ammunition for this gun and the fact that I am not reloading at the present time, I'll probably only get it out a few times a year, but such is the way with these things. I'm assuming this isn't the type of gun you would want to run hundreds of rounds through in one sitting anyway as it is most likely fatiguing to shoot.

I am loving it so far, I just hope my little ##### wrists can take it!

Completely useless gun IMO....but one of the most popular handguns at our open house each year IIRC.

Everyone wants to fire one at least once, but I can never understand why anyone would want to own one.

Please see above. HE does and that is all that matters.

I have a 460v and it is completely useless as well.

Well...based on that I can now completely understand why someone would want to own one

I was at the range and a guy next to me had a .500 S&W and he was talking to someone about the first time he shot it. The recoil caused him to squeeze off another round which went through the ceiling, I looked up and there was a half inch hole :D

They are kind of a novelty up here for sure. That said, I wanted it, so I bought it. That's probably all the reason anyone needs. Certainly not practical, but should be fun to shoot none the less.

To play devil's advocate, I suppose you could blanket your argument against every pistol in Canada since the restrictions are so tight on them up here. Really, the DE is no less impractical than a Glock 17 in this country using that reasoning.

Just comes down to what you like and what you want to shoot at this juncture.

I was more using the term useless as a practical item with relative levels of cost.

I suppose if your independently wealthy, the only concern is practicality.

I'll never fault a guy for buying a gun he wants, but I suspect that most people who own DEs just have them sitting in the safe nearly all the time. Safe queens are fine for some people, I only own guns that get used though.

"And the fact that you've got 'Replica' written down the side of your guns... And the fact that I've got "Desert Eagle point five O"... Written down the side of mine... "

Second funniest movie of all time.

True true.

Hey...Brantford represent.

Bullet Tooth Tony: So, you are obviously the big ####. The men on the side of ya are your balls. Now there are two types of balls. There are big brave balls, and there are little mincey ###### balls.

Vinny: These are your last words, so make them a prayer.

Bullet Tooth Tony: Now, dicks have drive and clarity of vision, but they are not clever. They smell p#$$y and they want a piece of the action. And you thought you smelled some good old p#$$y, and have brought your two little mincey ###### balls along for a good old time. But you've got your parties muddled up. There's no p#$$y here, just a dose that'll make you wish you were born a woman. Like a prick, you are having second thoughts. You are shrinking, and your two little balls are shrinking with you. And the fact that you've got "Replica" written down the side of your guns...
And the fact that I've got "Desert Eagle point five O...Written down the side of mine... Should precipitate your balls into shrinking, along with your presence. Now... F#*K OFF! "

Funniest movie of all time.

Sounds like you need a little help with your WRIST exercises....should be enough people around Brantford that can give you a HAND with that.....lmao

I can see you've visited!

And Major Sights...that is the scene lol. Years ago I said if I ever got licensed, I wanted a DE in .50.

And pics as requested:

DE and G17 side by side size comparo

G17 in the "rear mount" position on the DE...I think the G17 would be the bottom in this relationship.

SAM_0161.jpg

G17 and DE rear comparo. DE has a big fat butt. G17 clearly has a better diet and exercise program.

SAM_0162.jpg

Ammo comparo. .223 snapcap, .50ae case, .45ACP snap cap and 9mm case

SAM_0163.jpg

Top down ammo comparo. The .50 can readily swallow all of the others.

It is a nce gun but it does jam frequently with reloads and factory ammo. It is a type of pistol that must be oiled a lot.

This I have heard. Clean and oiled seems to be the rule of the day. I did do a detail strip of the slide including the bolt assembly this morning and it isn't too bad so keeping it clean won't be an issue.
