Hey guys I was thinking of getting the desert eagle in .357 as I'm just finalizing getting my paper work for the restricted and non restricted and 357 is a nice round I can use in lots of guns and i can go to the range with a bucket of 357 ammo and a bunch of guns and have some fun.

I notice though that the Desert Eagles can be pretty pricey and not a lot of places even carry them. Anyone know some good places to look ?? So if anyone of you have one if you could let me know what place you got it from and the cost etc.

Magnum Research has it around $1,500 USD but a lot of canadian places are asking 2k +

So just curious to those who have them where they got em, how much etc.

Desert Eagles are pricey to buy and operate, not much more to it that that.

Freedom Ventures deals with Magnum Research and is a board supporter here. Drop them a line.

357 DE's don't come up as often as 44MAG and even 50AE versions on the board here. There is a lot on the web about DE's and some of it is way off base. One of the things I discovered is they are very finicky when it comes to ammo. Get that right and the pistol is a blast :)

Only thing about the 357 version is it needs full house or hot loads to operate correctly. The gun is massive and it takes a lot to get the slide operating correctly.

ya i mean i know the gun is a bit of a larf in terms or just being over the top but I think it would be fun to own one. I know the spring kits on them need to be changed every so often to get them to cycle properly.

I guess my only thing is I'm surprised that they go for so much in canada. I mean a used one here costs more than a new one in the US

a baby eagle doesn't even come close to the LCF of the full size. Don't waste your time on the .357 go .44 or .50. The .357 is the most finicky of the them all. Run full power loads regardless of the pistol, and you'll be fine.

ok well regardless of which caliber i take do you guys notice that these guns are overly expensive in canada?

in the US you can get them like $1,300 new I don't understand why in canada its $2,000 or higher in some cases. Seems crazy to me

This is addressed many times on this board, actually. Besides exchange rate and different pricing by manufacturer for international sales, there are extra costs on importers for bringing them in such as paperwork and international shipping. These things add up and are reflected in the price. Don't forget, a profit has to be made not only in recovering the cost of purchasing the firearms, but storage, utilities and wages.

Best way to get a sense of all this is to try and import firearms or even something toyish like BB guns. Bureaucratic nightmare.

Importing fees and mark up my friend...its the same with EVERY gun in Canada pretty much.

well thats my point. I find a lot of guns in canada are around the cost of the MSRP of the USD, where as in the US guns are usually less than the MSRP, so the desert eagle's MSRP is 1,500 but they're like 2k here.

Where as you look at something like a Smith and Wesson M&P15-22 is $499 USD MSRP and badger arms for example sells it for $520

I understand if i was joe blow off the street there is lots of red tape and such but as mentioned above that applies to all guns. Doesn't make sense why the DE has this crazy mark up

I just bought a pristine Mk XIX in .44 magnum and black oxide finish on the EE for $1,200. Sometimes you get lucky.

If you want one new, you'll be paying close to 2K, no matter where you go. Stop asking and go order one from almost any handgun retailer in Canada. I also suggest 44 Magnum, I had the 50AE and the 44 Mag, the 50 was just too expensive to shoot. I have a new one in 44 with the new muzzle brake on order in Polished Blued. I don't recommend cheaping out and getting the Black Oxide, from my experience that is prone to rusting, unless you keep anything in black oxide dripping in oil.

You should get the total LCF and get the gold tiger striped!

I handled one of those and considered it. I think the matte part of the finish will "shine" up over time and unevenly making it look splotchy. Just my opinion from how it felt.
