Desert Tech confirms a Canadian MDR

Not to pick on you or be a #### but why does everyone expect a battle rifle to be insanely accurate or they won't consider buying one?
Luckily I've already spoken with DT and they are using Lothar Walther barrels and they are free floated so accuracy should be better than most other options out there. I would guess accuracy will be similar to an HK SL8 since they also use Lothar Walther barrels and are free floated other than the short stroke gas system.

Watch the videos posted in this thread and others on youtube and you will know as much as the rest of us. The magazine release is in front of the trigger just like an AR.

There is lots of time to do your research though since I doubt we'll see these in Canada till late 2016.
It will be interesting if military anywhere adopts this design for use.

The whole "battle rifle accuracy" thing is moot to us civilians, especially when the firearms in question were never adopted by any military. I see the term "battle rifle" being tossed around by us civies as an excuse for the inaccuracy of a firearm in some failed attempt to justify spending more for less.

nope, there are a lot more important things for a standing military, namely infantry, than just accuracy, otherwise all armies would be using single shot sharps.

The rifle was designed with "battle rifle" in mind, the prototype in the video has a fun switch. A rifle doesn't need to be adopted by a military to be a battle rifle. If they didn't have it in mind it wouldn't have compatibility with Stanag mags and SR25 mags and would have no fun switch.

I anticipate this rifle to be above average in the accuracy department battle rifle or not.

It looks like the magazine release is behind the magazine - right? That would make the MDR ergonomically inferior to the Tavor, as the Tavor can release the magazine with the shooting hand.

Check again, it's just over the trigger guard. It's a darn shame this rifle was announced like the week after i bought my RFB. Oh well...i guess i'll just have to own both.

So what's the attraction to these? And why would anyone spend $3000 for one when many proven semi-auto's (that accept AR mags) at under $2000 are available? Is it the possibility of it being NR? How many actually shoot anywhere other than at a range? Coyote hunting? It certainly isn't a competition rifle. Will it become another BBQ gun like the 50cal Desert Eagle.

bbq gun

The type of aesthetically pleasing or impressive-looking firearm that you might show off at a BBQ or on other social occasions, but may be less than useful.

I'm guessing the guys that hunt would want a short, accurate .308 since the cartridge is more than capable of legally taking most game in North America. On top of that some people have enough free money that they like owning nice things, and particularly nice things that everybody else doesn't own.

It's like asking why buy a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution rather than a Nissan Versa, both cars are four cylinder four door motor vehicles...

You have another 2 to 3 years to wait before they show up here, so...

i know and i would have waited, whats your point? i've got other rifles to shoot and a few other MUCH cheaper firearms i could've purchased and played with in the mean time. Are you incapable of waiting a few years for good things? That said i probably would've ended up getting the RFB anyways. The MDR achieves the same thing in a much simpler way and will probably be a lot more reliable, but the RFB's mechanism is and probably will forever be one of a kind. Though Keltec's attempt at reinventing the wheel so to speak wasn't perfect, it turned out pretty darn well. The only real failure was their attempt to predict the gun laws of the time and chose to use FAL magazines.

Why does the lab take so long anyway? It only takes about five min to duct tape a new rifle to an AR15 lower and try to fire a round ;)

Government procurement processes take along time you know. To actually get a roll of duct tape to tape a upper, im sure the RCMP would have to demonstrate a need by holding a inquiry first. Then they would solicit venders who sell duct tape. After that get their financial department to sign off on the capital expenditures for the potential cost of the tape. Then they would have to hold trials of the duct tape manufacturers and vendors to see which tape is the most effective. Choosing the successful winner of the trial is a highly politicalized process wich ultimately will lead to political infighting and leaked stories to the media about corrupt and inefficient beuracrats .

When that is all said and done and the trials are held and the financials put in place they gotta find a auxiliary pleeb to go to the hardware store and buy the roll of tape.

This is why it takes the RCMP firearms lab roughly two years to tape a upper on a AR15 lower to make it restricted. :)

They booked a spot but were no show at the Range day. 2017 spring / 2016 winter will be my prediction when the American see this out in the wild.

So who is the distributor?, North Sylva has said they are not. TSE lost it years ago.

It's not finalized yet. I asked at the booth and they said that in a week or two after the show they would announce their official partnership with a Canadian distributor.

I would bet 10:1 that it will be Vault Distribution. Vault spent some serious change to get their sticker on the front of a whole shwack of Shot Show guides and booklets, explicitly soliciting new brands for Canadian distribution. They also already do kel-tec

I believe TSE said recently in another thread that Blue line beat them out of it, post 106
