Desert Tech MDR - First Impressions?

I really hope so, I also ordered one, even though ive been talking sh!t about NEA for years.
A krieger barrel would be quite sensational

Back on topic, the MDR is still years away from coming here, and hopefully it will come in by a good distributor, aka wolverine and not some nitwit half measure aka north silva.

This is the only NEA product I've considered buying. I don't have any NEA rifles in my safe. But the NEA 102 had my interest from the start and has my interest even more after doing some digging to figure out exactly what it is. That's still ongoing but it looks promising so far.

An AR10 with a good barrel and the right twist for the ammo you plan on shooting is a very very accurate rifle. This actually has more accuracy potential than the MDR. Some day when I do get a MDR (yes being hopeful here) I will be able to do a direct comparison since three of my AR10 rifles have Walther Lothar barrels as well.

I have some big expectations for the MDR, which is why I put my name down for one two years ago!! Having traded my RFB off, I look forward to a 308 in the same short package, only with much better quality and accuracy! It was tough trading that RFB off since it's pretty amazing having a non restricted 308 semi in such a short handy package.

I don't usually agree with Onetwentish but in this case the potential with what we are seeing is huge. Even a broken clock is right twice a day !! :p

It'll be by Outdoor Escapes, they are the importer of DT SRS's right now. I've been in contact with the guy since meaford last year... Still nothing regarding my ####ty mags.... Not holding my breath any more.

Why the heck do the Canadian distributors of Desert Tech change so much? What the heck is going on?

How is it on reliability and aftermarket parts compared to rifles like the Tavor?

Aftermarket will likely be pretty slim as

A) the rifle wont have near as large of adoption base as the Tavor due to price and how slow they were bringing it to market after the intial launch date.

B) DT has left the aftermarket with nothing to improve on. They actually listened to what the special operations community and the civilian community wanted, unlike the Tavors which were seemingly designed with a minimal input from the people who were actually going to be using it.

C) this is the first truly modern design, so all features are the best of what is currently available (keep in mind that the Tavor is a 22yr old design, so great for what it was then but even the x95 is dated now). All the design improvements you could add to a Tavor and more are already existing on the MDR. If you can name ont thing that looks like it could be reasonable to upgrade I would like to hear it because I cant see anything. Thats 1 part of what makes this platform so damn attractive.

Ya I've been looking at the features that come stock on it. Pretty impressive. If it can prove to be as reliable as the Tavor, I may actually consider parting with my Tar21 for one of these.

They do look good, but modularity regarding grips, fore ends etc detecting on body type/application etc would be nice. I find when something is designed to for everyone it generally fits everyone poorly. I'm not sure there's been a rifle made that couldn't be improved by a bit of aftermarket support.

That is the downside to bullpups is most dont typically have many of any choices regarding grip size/shape or buttpad length. The MDR does feature a interchangeable forend but I dont see any way the 2 factory options could be improved upon with present design options unless there was a way to lighten it further (Carbon fiber anyone?) or a desire to shorten/lengthen it.

A black rifle that doesn't need upgrading or aftermarket accessories. Imagine that...

I would guess the primary aftermarket will be barrels conversion parts. I am hoping we eventually get the caliber options like the SRS, pretty much whatever you can get the mag to feed you can get. .458 SOCOM, yes please! 7.62x39, obviously. I would love a 22" barreled 6.5 creedmore for DMR work. Seriously, if it has the versatility of the SRS and they gain a reputation for reliability, this will be the best "black rifle" on the market.

I was hoping the grip would be like a polymer pistol with interchangeable grip size, or even like the X95, where you can replace the whole grip. It won't matter to me, I am getting one either way!
