The tavor is coming out in 308 is it not ? If this rifle comes in at 3500$ or more there is no way it will sell well here - my opinion
XCR-M - $3360
BM ACR DMR - $3460
Arts Modern Hunter - $3650
X95 - $2700
I can pretty much guarantee it'll be over 3k, and probably over $3500 with the NR premium but with the government the way it is, not much you can do about it. 3k seems like it's the starting point for 308 sporting rifles though, so a large rifle Tavor likely would be too.
Tavors were $3500 when they first came available.
They had the XCR-L (cheaper), Swiss Arms (about the same price point) and the usual other suspects (FS2000, PS90, etc.). Yes, it came with a Mepro but had a proprietary mount (you had to get a Dlask aftermarket rail if you wanted to upgrade the optic). Most ended up selling the optic. Still, that was $3500 almost 10 years ago...Yes but they also did not have as many competion in the NR market and did they not come with an optic?

Take an X95 and add the Geissele trigger packs and you're in the same $3400-3500 range. I suspect the MDR trigger will be very good, accuracy will probably be better than the Tavor and it's ambi from the get-go without having to source a LH bolt. It has more rail options and better ergonomics plus an easily changeable caliber system (300 BLK, 7.62) - so I think it's going to be super popular.
A 29" .308 bullpup that weighs less than 7lbs and prints 1 MOA? There will be a long waitng list...
From the website, the 16" version weighs 8.67 lbs. So close to 9 lbs with a 18.5" barrel, not sure where you're getting under 7lbs? It took the wind out my sails when I read that.
I paid $2300 for my Tavor, although they are closer to $2600 now, got the Super Sabra and Lightning Bow from Brownells for $350 USD at Christmas, but no where near $3500. There's also cheaper triggers than the Geissele. Still, it's mil-spec accuracy and I don't doubt the MDR will out shoot it. I hope the MDR is awesome, if nothing else, competition for the Tavor that isn't a Norinco or Keltec would be awesome.
Sorry, for some reason I thought it was comparable in weight with the TAR-21 (7.21lb) and X95 (7.5lb). With exchange you're probably close to $3k, and if you needed to convert to lefty you'll be out another $200 for the bolt. It's anyone's guess what they will actually be in Canada (if approved), but the mid 3k range is probably realistic. From the website, the 16" version weighs 8.67 lbs. I don't think we can necessarily take the weights listed at face value since they have the same value listed for 223, 300BLK and 308 (there is bound to be at least a little difference between 223 and 308). Your XCR is still lighter than a quad Swiss Arms...Well it's still two pounds lighter than my quad rail XCR![]()
