I know the market is flooded with aftermarket stocks for the sks, but if you could design your own, what would it look like? Tactical? If so, how would it be different? The gun is a little long and fugly so some stocks just don't look right.

Building a laminate SVD stock for my SKS this summer. Currently running an AA SKS stock and although I really like it; I really want the look and feel of wood back on the gun. Plus having a wood stock again would allow me to more easily bed the action.

Tapco already made my dream stock for the SKS. I couldn't improve on this perfection, although the guy I bought I from thought he could by hogging it out to jam a sniper badge in the cheek piece. That took a bit of work to correct and make it look good by sinking it deeper and encasing it in clear epoxy flush mounted to the contour of the stock.

Well,........

I've long learned to shoot battle rifles the way they are made and can be reasonably efficient without modifications. I think it would suck to have to modify every single rifle to be good with it. I wonder if people have to modify computer keyboards, pianos, guitars, door knobs, hammers, shovels, coffee cups, and hockey sticks in order to use them efficiently?

I have yet to see one person out at the range that can shoot better with all these mods. Of course we are here on the internet where everyone is a combat vet with a metal of valor for their shooting skills... yet on the range, all them mods are a waste of money and people still can't shoot.

Some people simply enjoy tinkering and modifying their guns.... they tend to understand more more about how the firearms function than the folks who DONT "modify" them. And umm YAH MILLIONS of people "modify" their computers to perform faster, hold more space, support new technology ETC. ALL THE TIME! same with pianos, guitars, hockey sticks and yes even SHOVELS. I bent an arch in one just the other day to save my back!

I see a ton of modified cars/bikes on the road and yet the turnips driving them still suck! Lol. I for one enjoy the process and the creativity. Imagine if every gun out there had blue barrel, brown stock and iron sights? BORING! Do I expect my modified gun to shoot better? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. If I mod it with a cheek rest that gives me a better cheek weld, then yes. If the length of pull suits me better, then again, yes. Do I expect a tapco stock to outshoot the original? Not likely but if I'm having fun with my tacticool, zombie smashing 7.62, isn't that the point? Everyone shoots and modifies their guns for their own reasons. If you like the original stock, then great. Fill your boots. I have two sks' now. Plan is one plain jane and other modified for shats and giggles. The idea of the post was to see what fresh ideas were out there. That's all.
