I have a browning x bolt in 375 h&h but left the open sights on since I bought it. Want to put a scope on but have the option of easily reverting to open sights. I'm worried that a cheap set of detachable mounts won't stand up to the recoil. Any ideas or suggestions?

I own and like both Warne and Talley QD rings, but if you're mounting a scope with a long eye piece, which includes most variable power scopes, a Pic rail provides the most latitude for locating the scope on the rifle in order to achieve the correct eye relief. Unfortunately extended QD rings seem to be works of fiction. I like Near's Pic rails which have a recoil shoulder that act as a stop against the front receiver ring, but many consider their price a bit unreasonable. Lever locking rings make the mounting system truly QD, although conventional screw or cross bolts aren't that inconvenient if you don't mind carrying a small tool to aid in the removal/remounting of the scope.

I use Leupold QRW bases and rings on my Rem 700 LSS in 375RUM and several of my T/C Contender carbines 308Bellm, 375JDJ, 45-70 that have factory iron sights mounted.

I recommend them for their strength and repeatability.

Boomer I have never heard of Near before.

I am looking for an extended scope base for my stainless T/C Prohunter in 375H&H I would use Leupold PRW rings think I'll contact them and ask.

I use the Leupold QR mounts ( not the weaver style, but with the short studs that go in a hole) I'm just about to mount some on my Sako .375, have used a set on a light .35 Whelen for years with zero problems and repeatable accuracy.

The power ring clears the base, although this photo wouldn't make you think so . . .

i will say leupold qrw or weaver grand slam steel qr but no the warnes. i had to change them two time on a ruger 375. they always support their product but wont recommend it.

+1 for throttle monkey.
I had a set of EAW's on a 7mm REM mag that was a hard kicker.
Never shifted poi. Could take the scope off in all of 3 seconds.
So well designed and made. You can just see the top class German in them. can't say the same of Talley. Have a set in my 375 and they always change elevation by a couple inches when going on and off. Oh and they take about 15 seconds to get off.
Difference between $100 and $500 products

Warne QD are what I put on a 375 Ruger Hawkeye.

Happens to work with the eye relief of a VX3 (2.5-8), but I could see some people having trouble with the eye relief aspect, as the positioning is limited as others have mentioned. Rail may be required.

i had eaw on two rifles: one a 300 wea mag with eaw magnum mounts and one on 9.3x62 both pivots.

they are good but i have tried since we moved to Canada leupold QR, QRW, warnes and others.

i still have weaver grand slam steel rings and bases, leupold qrw.

to each one but this is just my feedback.
