It comes down to intent. If you have a gun in a guitar case, because as many people have found they work great, are readily available, and are typically affordable, that is not a crime.
If you have a gun in a guitar case because you don't want anyone to know you have a gun, then you are concealing it and that is illegal.
^ this, there was a guy that has a gun either wrapped in a blanket or jacket and was charged with concealing a weapon. Unless you have a lot of money and time on your hands to challenge this in court its probably best just to go with a case that was designed for a firearm.

I do archery and use my archery bow bag when I go to the range. Works but it gets heavy when I have rifles and a bow in there.

By heat I mean anybody who may turn hysterical if there was any hint of a firearm in that case. The worst is when some ####### calls the police on you when you're doing absolutely nothing wrong, and you have to deal with all kinds of #### for no good reason.
