Disgusting....or is it just me?

This guy is not a hunter. Just a shooter of animals.

Here's food for thought:

A peculiar virtue in wildlife ethics is that the hunter ordinarily has no gallery to applaud or disapprove of his conduct. Whatever his acts, they are dictated by his own conscience, rather than by a mob of onlookers. It is difficult to exaggerate the importance of this fact. Voluntary adherence to an ethical code elevates the self respect of the sportsman, but it should not be forgotten that voluntary disregard of the code denigrates and depraves him.

I am willing to bet that 95% of you "animal respectors" will brag about your great tracking skills including waiting 25 minutes after the shot to follow up an animal that runs into the bush.

Good point, but this guy WATCHED it flop around. Its not the same thing.

I believe the purpose of the waiting for tracking is to insure that the animal just lays down and goes unconcious rather than running who knows how far on Adrenaline due to you chasing it.
If I'm wrong about that please correct me with the real reason.

The guys a complete A$$HOLE!!

I almost always put two bullets in an animal. One in the boiler room just behind the shoulder, then I haul ass to get up within a few yards of the beast. If it is flopping around/still conscious I always put one more in the back of the head.

End it quickly.

From the way he shot 8 times and only hit 4 i'd say he was inexperianced, can't shoot and was too scared to approach the animal while it was still alive.People can do stupid things when they are scared. What his response to being told he did it wrong would show whether he is an idiot or didnt know any better.

There wasnt just 1 a**hole, there were 2, he and his buddy were both watching this poor elk suffer with 4 bullet holes in him. It makes me sick to think that these guys were probably looking at it and laughing at the same time. My hunting partner is my best freind but if he did that he would not have me as a freind no more.(After the beating of course)

  That is disgusting.

Sounds like he must be related to wendy.

He certainly shouldn't be allowed to shoot at any animal with poor skills like that, and shouldn't be allowed to shoot *at all* with poor judgement like that.

Oh, it's not just you 280_Ackley, it is disgusting and sinfull. I can't begin to even say or maybe it's best that I don't say what should be in store for this...piece of crap, his hunting partner is no better either. But then, where does this type of behaviour begin...at a young age I would say. These people either never had a mentor or had one that taught them along those lines. Those of us more experienced hunter with ethics and good moral values should take it upon ourselves to educate the young people that take up the sport. Yes I did say the bad word "ethics" and "morals" - those that don't like it...well you know what to do.

I am so glad that you brought up the subject, because there was a post that I read not that long ago that I just couldn't get out of my mind it pissed me off so much. I left a cordial reply but that didn't change how I felt about it, and it goes to show you that some of these young hunters don't often get the right message from some hunters whom you would think should be responsible enough to set the right example.

Just look at these two photos, what kind of a message do you think the first one leaves you with. Beer in hand, pool of blood, bloodied up animal with tongue hanging out. Just how much lead is in this poor LITTLE buck. No dignity shown to this animal. Oh...just think about what the "antis" that we often hear of on this website will think of this. Talk about giving them a full clip of ammo against hunting. Now the second photo is of a young man that I don't even know, I don't have to know him either to establish that this fellow has class and gives his quarry due respect. There's not enough of them.

if the person who started this thread was told the Ass hole he ran out of ammo id say "and you didn't have a knife and the balls to use it here let me show you how" and stab him and leave him to floop around wounded don't kill animals i harvest which means doing the humane thing to do this is the crule and barberic thing that gives nut cases like PETA credibility

One of the reasons i like the idea of a bayonet is so if i drop an animal that was still alive but ran out of ammo doubt that will happen considering i wouldn't carry less then 20 rnds incase i got lost any ways i can reach it from a distance for safty

to put it this way i shot a yote thru the chest and blew about 3 inches of spine out just abouve its tail i hopped the fence i was resting on and when i got up to it i raised up and looked at me one more to the side of the head stopped its arguements bu i still feel bad about it having to suffer untill i got to it and put it out of its missery as far as i am concerned buddy should be put in it the elks position and see what its like just my 2 cents but still

400 yards? ####..

just walk up and finish it..

but 8 shots to take it down? someone needs to practice.

Yes of course its disgusting behaviour for a hunter.. but luckily they are few and far between.

It would take just a couple mins and possibly even less than that if you hurried... to put the finishing shot into that elk. I agree with you, the elk deserved better.

At least you know to steer clear of that...

ASS-HAT...

Cheers

...

Completely unacceptable. He isn't a hunter, he shouldn't have access to firearms or even sharp objects, there is something utterly DERANGED about a person who will sit there and watch a creature dying in agony for 25 minutes... and then BRAG ABOUT IT.

Maybe karma will come around someday while he is sitting his fat ass in the bush and get his balls blown off by a stray shot... and flops around for 25 minutes before help gets to him.

True

However, speaking for myself, I will always go to where the animal was standing (I'm too lazy to even shoot at moving animals) and look for blood trail.

From the blood spray pattern and blood trail you can tell how well its hit and if you need to let it go lie down and stiffen up, or if its allready dead piled up in the bush.

If you take a shot and you know your rifle you should not need to do much tracking, and your gema should be dead by the time you get to it.

When I say I'm a lazy hunter I mean that I don't like to drag dead animals several hundred meters, or have to track a wounded animal to finish it. Clean kills save a lot of work later.

I have no problem with taking long shots on elk, but would have gotten another into it to finish it off asap, for humane reasons and to save the quality of the meat.

+1. Elk are stubborn buggers. It takes a lot of damage to put them down, for good. I've seen them cover all kinds of ground with big holes in their lungs. Usually into deep shrubbery. Rushing up to a downed elk (such as with a knife...) is not a good idea, I've seen them get back up, and start running. Once he's up, he's going a LONG ways away. And then the meat is really going to be ruined, especially if it's the Rut. Temps in Sept have a nasty habit of kicking up into the high teens...

That being said... to stand there are watch it die, for nearly half an hour is inexcusable. A short stalk and a well placed shot from a lot closer definatly is mandatory.

I'd like to be his Dentist ... 4 or 5 stabs in the gums with a not too sharp
hypo ... ( geez, just can't seem to find the right place... on purpose ... and oh darn, not quite the amount of xylocaine ... geez ! ) then inflict some real pain - and respond the same way, i.e., " What's the big deal ? " ....

He's probably too stupid to draw a comparison, though.
