Dissapointed with a new rifle....**updated**

Your experience with Lever makes me more reluctant to purchase online from anyone. Buying something site unseen is a bit of a gamble and from what you have been saying it is very easy for them to put you off and not have to deal with a dissatisfied customer.

I think i will buy from a local store so i can handle the firearms and if something
is wrong i will be standing right in front of them when i am asking for some assistance with it, much harder to be ignored that way.

Good post, i don't see why people can't critize a company based on their personal experience.

In all fairness, CGN is a great place to find out who's good to deal with and who's not. Sites like this help the good guys, and will eventually either weed out the unscrupulous sellers or force them to clean up their acts.

A while back I called Elwood Epps to deal on a FN Mauser sporter. The fellow I spoke to went and physically got the gun from the rack, and gave me a detailed and objective description. He e-mailed a few minutes later with excellent photos. I bought the rifle, and have to say it was at least as good as described.

Those are the kinds of dealers we need to encourage - and that's at least as important as shining the light on the bad ones.

Let me tell what happened to me just today. I was in Dawson Creek, with a .30-06 barrel that I wanted cut & crowned. I walked into Corlanes, and asked their 'smith if he could do it for me when he got a chance....he said "Give it here; I just happen to have the lathe set up to do a brake.."

Less than ten minutes later he handed it back, perfectly cut & crowned, just as I had asked. I asked "What do I owe you?"...to which he replied.."That's alright; I had the lathe set up anyway...no charge."

To my thinking, THAT is good customer service - he could have easily charged me a normal fee, and I'd never have known the difference. But he didn't, and you know darn well where I'll have my next rifle built. And they deserve to be recognized for it.

I can understand buying cheap rifles, due to the fact that I have a bit of a weakness for guns, and cant seem to wait and save enough money for quality rifles or handguns. But the 3 times I have recieved bad guns from a over the phone order, the dealers were more than happy to give me an exchange and pay the shipping and in one case give me a full refund towards upgrading to a better handgun. And here's a :dancingbanana: on me.

That is good and when I get little lifts like that I make sure I buy something even slightly overpriced to ensure that they feel they have done well. I was in AG Parker in Birmingham and every bit I asked for was either in the scrap bin and thus free or £2 for finding it. I bought a couple of very old bisley score books to put some money in his till.

I have no experience with stores online, but private citizens and dealers here (like Weimijack and Gunnar) have given me the best experiences. 7 deals for "previously loved" firearms and one new Yugo SKS and not a single hitch.

My $0.02

i too have dealt with epps. i called about a rifle on the web site and the fellow retrieved it from the rack and gave a very accurate discription. he then arranged to send me digitals. i bought said rifle and believe the condition to be better than i was told. lever has given me a cold feeling in the past and i haven't bought from them, now i'm glad i didn't
