DIY: installing Choate mount on SKS

mg4201: a center drill would have been excellent, but as someone mentioned, the kids at canadian tire have no idea what they are doing and I didnt see any on the shelves, so I got the punch instead, but of course that didnt last.

PerversPépère: that is an excellent idea, I was thinking about it after how it would be great if I could just attach the tap to the drill chuck and manually turn it, but didnt think I could do it with my drill press. however I didnt break the tap, so it turned out well.

mhowarth: thanks for the help with the screws! I will have to go and see the auto section this time. I bought some SS screws at home depot for the meantime and they seem to hold up for now, but dont look the greatest.

now its an evil high power baby killing sniper assault rifle (if the media ever reported on it)

nice work. I am a greedy bugger so how about a range report. your boss called he said you could go today with pay lol

well that would be outstanding!

the scope is just a cheap tasco .22 scope. Not sure how that would hold up to the minimal recoil. Will likely pick up something tougher before I go and test it out

Can you show us how you attached your pistol grip. A picture of the bottom of the SKS behind the trigger without the pistol grip and another picture showing how you attached the pistol grip inside the SKS?

Your SKS is exactly what I'm building. I also plan to remove the front sight block and threading the muzzle to put a muzzle break. I hope the Choate mount, a threaded muzzle break, glass bedding and a trigger job will make my SKS a little more accurate.

A pistol grip would make my baby look very evil.

Hope to see pictures of how to attached the pistol grip.

Thank you
