I was at a meeting last night with a Conservation Officer that works in Region 2 and parts of Region 3 here in BC.

He asked me if I had seen Dlask's 8.5" Rem 870 shotgun to which I responded of course I even bought one.

He told me that all of the CO's that work this region had a meeting where the shotgun was presented to them and they were all told that it was non-restricted so do not hassle anyone with one...

Yeah Baby that was what I wanted to hear... :D :runaway: :D

how long is the OAL of your rem 870 with the stock and with the pistol grip. thanks

I wonder if the one in the meeting had the pistal grip or the butstock?

keep in the mind the 8.5 still is illegal to hunt with in BC (anything under 12"). I wonder if that was mentioned at the meeting.

He told me it had the pistol grip on it when it was shown to them...

I'll email the CO and ask him if the hunting issue was mentioned.

why cant you hunt with the 8.5?

In BC any firearm with a barrel length less than 12.5" is considered a handgun for the purposes of hunting under the provincial hunting regs...nothing to do with Federal definitions or regulations.
So even with a full buttstock the 8.5" 870 meets the definition of a handgun in the Provincial Hunting Regulations....again nothing to do with the Federal definition of a handgun, just for the purposes of hunting in BC

thanks. that made my choice of barrel length a lot easier!
Never even thought about lookin in my hunting regs for barrel lengths. I was only worried about it being Restricted!

Well.. maybe I should ask this. What I want to use it for is just a sidearm for when I am bowhunting or out in the bush plinkin roadhawks with the .22... If I am out hunting in the bush with an 8.5 (not acually using it as my hunting weapon).. will I get in trouble?

Methinks getting a 12" will be the best route.. but I sure love the look of them little guys!

The recoil must be rather nasty?

Good to hear

I just ordered 2 - 8.5's, so I hope this trend continues up the legal ladder.

cancelled.......waiting for definitive decision from the law.

Don't cancel your orders, the more of these that are owned in civilian hands the better the case we have to keep them non restricted as they should be. You can't self censor as you gentleman have or you're automatically giving in, they are legal to buy, you want one, so buy it. For the record I have no affiliation with Dlask, I just find the reasoning very strange.

+1 on that. especially when they have had the extremely good reception in the market that they seem to have gotten. and Joe gives you the long stock as well...

To be honest I don't know what the legal situation is but I can say it is not everyone that can afford to loose the price tag of one these things! I'd rather give 500 bucks to a firearms advocacy group then end up dumping 500 on a barrel that will be worth nothing if the gun goes restricted.
Thumbs up to dlask for trying, these guns have a lot of legitimate use and I'd like to have one in the field kit but truth be told I'd sure would'nt choose it over a 250 dollar stocked 18 incher in a need a gun situation.
