Dlask 8.5" Rem 870

To be honest I don't know what the legal situation is but I can say it is not everyone that can afford to loose the price tag of one these things! I'd rather give 500 bucks to a firearms advocacy group then end up dumping 500 on a barrel that will be worth nothing if the gun goes restricted.
Thumbs up to dlask for trying, these guns have a lot of legitimate use and I'd like to have one in the field kit but truth be told I'd sure would'nt choose it over a 250 dollar stocked 18 incher in a need a gun situation.

Strange reasoning. Gun advocy groups mean nothing without the guns. Own the guns first, then defend your your ability to keep them; going at it the other way is asinine. As well, the entire point of this gun is by no means to be more effective than an 18", but to make sure you actually have it with you. Ever hiked a hundred kilometres or more? I do frequently. Let me know what you prefer at the end of that.

Ardent, like I said I'd be happy to have one in my kit, but it is no more 'with you' then a stocked 870, Is. If you want to play Mr. wilderness/been there/do that you have picked the wrong guy to try and overshadow. Feel free to start a how far-how long-how isolated thread.LOL.

Canam you would'nt loose the gun so much as you would loose the $ value in it, check out the price diffrence between a new "870 express" and a 8.5 inch gun. the 500 is what you would loose.

All I am saying is that for the money there are more effective ways to be a pro active firearms privilage advocate then by buying one of these.

I sincerely doubt I've picked the "wrong guy"... I've hiked and alpine climbed on three continents, rainforests to tundra, including joining the 20,000ft club in the Andes. I'm pretty content with my position that I'm well familiar with what dimensions and weight mean in the back country bud. This is besides the point and I'm letting my ego talk a tad too much here, but nobody on this site would argue it's as easy to carry an 18" 870 and you're going to take it as many places as one the better part of a foot shorter and pounds lighter.

Good point Can-Am, you're not going to lose the gun, you'd only fight a status change and the more people that own them the stronger our case to keep them for their intended use.

...and worse comes to worst, you put the long stock on, that's supplied with it anyway. ;) Moral; place your orders and don't sit back in fear of the government. It's legal, you want it, 'nuff said...

The reason I cancelled is that the price for the benefit compared to my Fabarm isn;t enough until they are ruled on. What do I have at the end of the day if they go restricted??? A $900 range gun? I'm still waiting......I just can't spend that much change until hearing the courts ruling.

(Especiially with Alberta headed for recession - ;))

Nope, they come with both stocks, long and pistol grip, worst case scenario you put the full stock on and have a wicked compact little wilderness gun still, and still non-restricted, which they can't change (or your fabarm would be restricted too).

I cancelled my order too. Until it's status is finalized I don't need another restricted. I have a Ruger SRH .454 Casull for work on my ATC. I wanted the SMD-12 for non work carry. If it's restricted then it doesn't suit my needs.

For the time being, my non-work carry gun will be either my HP9-1 or 1895GS.

My point was that it's a lot of money when my Fabarm does the trick. 7 inches shorter isn't worth $900 to me.....I guess I should have phrased it better. I want the shorty with the pistol grip, that was the appeal.

You must not spent to much time in remote areas with any amount of gear then...

These little shotguns are fantastic that is why even why even when I really couldn't afford it I bought one...

Actually, as a field geologist, I do. But I am used to carrying either my Fabarm or my 45/70 GG, although I would like to get something smaller thats non-restricted. I know it's a great little shotgun, and more compact than what I have.....but it's $900!!! I've heard the cliche "but you're a rocksniffer, you got lots of money" and you know what....It's not disposable $$$ right now.....not when I have 2 capable arms and a good chance at an ATC. (I am applying for my ATC regardless for work purposes, but would rather not have the paperwork headache if I can avoid it)

It's just a waiting game now anyways......this could be tied up in court for years if it's anything like other suits and battles I know of.

I keep hearing people complain that these guns don't pattern, etc. Has anyone patterned theirs and taken a picture of the result? I can't imagine anyone using it with bird or target loads, but what would buckshot do? I'm waiting on the can am magazine loading one ($900 is way over my budget), so I'm actually pretty curious to see what havoc 8.5" can wreak
