Not the gas key, lap the gas tube.
No, I'm not paid by them. If you read my other post I point out the flaws, and my perspective anyway.
I just don't think it's that bad and like to see people give it a chance. My observations have shown that a worn in gas tube fits fine.
Question I have, is if I just got lucky. Have you tried yours to all your uppers, even the older worn ones, and are they all THAT tight? I wouldn't mind the data. Not sure how the QC over all is, and how bad the gas key problem is.
So far, my perspective is that you got a Canadian made BCG, for a Chinese made price, in a market of little to NO BCG options on the market.
So, for the price I paid, No, I don't think it's a big deal if it needs some fitting. If I paid $299 +shipping, +tax, and or went thru' the import hoops from brownells or something, yeah, I'd likely be a lot more dissapointed.
But no, $223 to my door, and all it needs is a little sandpaper, and in the end, you are likely to have a much tighter, more efficient gas seal on the key.
I once bought a flawed AR barrel for full retail, and demanded a replacement. I once bought another flawed barrel on sale for a good price, and fitted it.
It's all about the price point to me.
Perhaps my mentality is wrong, cause yeah, they screwed up. For the price point, I can forgive the poor machining if it works and lasts, but the gas key issue is a bit much. Part of me is just grateful to have finally acquired BCG looking for one for month, so I'm not going to let these issues stop me.
I understand that AR parts generally don't need fitting, so AR builders aren't used to doing such things, but I am from working on other kinds of guns, and beyond. So for now, my angle, is for people to stop complaining, and help them with some tips they can used to get past this and get their machines running.
This backlash is guaranteed to strike a chord with Dlask. I'm sure they will solve these issues in time, and future Gen's of this product will get squared away. In the meantime, I don't want to get too pissed at them, cause I want to encourage them to keep doing what they are doing, to release more Canadian product to the market so that we can move away from our dependency from american products.
I admire the initiative they took, and want to see them succeed.
Right now, of the hundreds that have probably shipped, or are going to ship, we maybe only see a handful of people that have the gas key problem.
I don't want to see this product reflected too badly, if it's only a few botched units of a hundred. If they get a undeserved bad rep, that could find this initiative dead in the water before it's even gained momentum. On the other hand, the card will fall as they may if this is indeed a complete disaster and said rep is deserved.
Time will tell. Personally, I'm more worried about the coating.
How much is Dlask paying you? You have been on your knees all night talking about this defective product.
I have to Grind out my gas key just so it will work?? Wtf? You think that is o.k! Big deal?
The gas tube will NOT go in. It is not snug or tight or firmly squeezes in. It does not even go in 5mm.
(yes I have more than one upper and have extra gas tubes)
Why are you blowing this off as a 'Opps, tee hee' just use a bit of emery cloth or it work it self out.?
