I originally bought this as a dumb fun gun but I've found it's surprisingly practical, it might even become my go-to pump.

For one thing, the vertical grip allows for a very quick and positive cycle that's completely immune to slipping, and of course it's extremely handy and lightweight, perfect for hiking.

The short barrel is blasty but it still gets surprisingly good velocity, 1033 fps with Federal 2.75" 00 and 1150 fps with slugs, according to the chrony.

Yeah that's down about 200 and 300 fps respectively from a riot length gun but still offers a decent amount of punch. It patterns surprisingly well for a cylinder bore too, I was surprised to learn it didn't have something like MOD choke. Perhaps the lower velocity helps with shot deformation or something?

The only problems I've found with it are that cycling it seems to throw off your aim off more than a conventional pump, and that the Express stock sucks, being both a bit too long and is not curved enough in the pistol grip area to work well with my hands.

I'm not sure if I can do much about the LOP, as the gun is pretty close to minimum nonrestricted OAL as is, but I'm going to look into it. Hopefully a 13.75" LOP Hogue is doable.

I've found it best to port load this sucker with my strong hand, leaving my left safely on the vertical grip, other than that there are no real technique changes needed.

I bought a Dlask 8.5. I too find them super handy. The Express action was extremely rough, so I did some deburring and stoning and am still wearing in the action. 2+1 or 3+1 capacity is fine by me. I'm going to try to add some weight to stock to dampen the recoil and balance the gun better. Still undecided whether a red dot would be a good addition. Next month I'll try send it off to get the electroless nickel coating and bolt DLC treatment.

I was shocked to find how smooth it cycled out of the box, and how well machined it was internally, much better on both counts than my early 2000s 870P, although the receiver exterior is typical Express rough.

I also plan to give it the Tac Ord or S&J treatment it eventually, although that won't be until its seen a lot of hard use.

This one had the Volquartsen extractor as part of the Performance Package, it seems to be a worthwhile step up from the Police extractor let along the MIM express piece, lots of bite and very consistent ejection patterns.

Bought one of these of the ee a few years ago. Mine was based on a older 870p chassis. Real fun to run, nice muzzle blast.

Wow, we do have different experiences with the Remington parts of what I image to be the same vintage. For instance, my bolt body has deep gouges even on the bolt face; if you said this was hand filed in some Filipino or Pakistani hut, I'd believe you.

Is the Keltec KS-7 giving you any second thoughts? If it were actually FRT'ed and commercially available today, I think I would have given it some serious consideration. But if it's 2 - 3 years out, I'm happy with the shorty for now.

I might be down for something similar if it were made by a company more reputable than Kel-Tec, even better if it were semiauto.

That must be bloody loud, I bet it has quite the muzzle blast at dusk!

Yeah, its a bit of a shock to the system with hot loads, although really no worse than some of the hot loaded Magnum revolvers I've shot. Recoil isn't bad at all, I swear that cycling it is more violent than actually shooting it, somehow.

Love the Serbu foregrip, that really "makes" the gun.

I just ended up ordering a 12.5 barel today. Sold my KSG because I’m wanting the ks7 but who knows how long that will take.
Picked up a wingmaster off the EE today also. Has the nice police furniture. It will tied me over until the KS7 gets here.
