I originally bought this as a dumb fun gun but I've found it's surprisingly practical, it might even become my go-to pump.
For one thing, the vertical grip allows for a very quick and positive cycle that's completely immune to slipping, and of course it's extremely handy and lightweight, perfect for hiking.
The short barrel is blasty but it still gets surprisingly good velocity, 1033 fps with Federal 2.75" 00 and 1150 fps with slugs, according to the chrony.
Yeah that's down about 200 and 300 fps respectively from a riot length gun but still offers a decent amount of punch. It patterns surprisingly well for a cylinder bore too, I was surprised to learn it didn't have something like MOD choke. Perhaps the lower velocity helps with shot deformation or something?
The only problems I've found with it are that cycling it seems to throw off your aim off more than a conventional pump, and that the Express stock sucks, being both a bit too long and is not curved enough in the pistol grip area to work well with my hands.
I'm not sure if I can do much about the LOP, as the gun is pretty close to minimum nonrestricted OAL as is, but I'm going to look into it. Hopefully a 13.75" LOP Hogue is doable.
I've found it best to port load this sucker with my strong hand, leaving my left safely on the vertical grip, other than that there are no real technique changes needed.
