do bears attack you in your sleep?

YUP! Seen it on video... Friggen camp counsellors were taping the "cute" bear as it cruised the camp... All while campers were sleeping in their sleeping bags OUTSIDE!!!

The bear walked up to a kid that was sleeping and attacked the kid! That's when the friggen counsellors acted!!! FRIGGEN TREE HUGGING IDIOTS!!!

Here is THE rule!!! See bear... Bear approaches CLOSER than 20 meters... SHOOT BEAR!!!

Cheers

Probably if he's hungry enough!!

If you leave food and garbage around your camp, that will attract critters, and possibly bears pending where you are. The best thing to do to eliminate this sort of occurance is to keep foodstuffs and garbage stored accordingly.

Bears rarely attack people, I haven't heard of a sleeping attack in many many moons.

If you're really concerned and you're in bear country, keep something handy while you're sleeping. Big knife, firearm or (snicker) bear spray.

If I'm camping/hunting and I'm alone in the backwoods where bears are, I usually snuggle with my .308 just in case.

I once had a rather large animal creeping around my camp at night, which I suspected it was a bear. I figured I could go out and confront the animal, or NOT. I just stayed in my tent and the animal left.

More imporantly!!

If you leave beer and whiskey unattended in your camp, you will attrack humans...the best thing to do is store liquor and beer accordingly to avoid this.

Yes they can... not common but it has happend. Make sure there is no food or drink in or near the tent. A kid was killed in his tent at Lesser Slave Lake park the year before I worked there.

It actually is more common that you think...

Although It's not common.;)

Almost always it wil be a black bear tryign to eat you for food, or he was attracted by food in your tent.

I think that many people would be scared to camp if they took a good look around thier tent in the morning. Several times I have seen black bear and grizzly tracks that have circled the tent, while I ave been sleeping peacefully...never heard a thing..

:)

as long as the bear stays outside i think its you don't bother him he won't bother you. running around in the dark trying to shoot a bear sound hazardius to your heath.

A neighbour claims a bear knocked his tent down on him and his wife and kid.

He bought a van, then sold that and has a Boler now.

He went and go this PAL and got a 410 too, so I asked him what he wanted to make the bear mad for.

I tell my camping/hunting partners in a very serious manner that "Nobody will play any bear jokes on each other. Bears in camp get shot." And then hold up my Marlin. "This is a 45/70. It shoots 400+grain bullets. Its loaded and sleeps next to me...Any questions???"

Alot of camps in the north do that- trip wires with alarms (or now they ave some that are run on sensors)

Yeah - and there's also now that portable electric fencing you can throw up around the campsite and it's back-packable. Apperently it works pretty good.

According to herrero - it's much less likely to be attacked if you're in a tent (vs sleeping under a tarp or just under the stars), and the bigger the tent the better. Food in the tent - ANY Food, even in the wrapper, is a great way to get bit. Remember that these things have noses like dogs - you think a dog could tell if you had a chocolate bar in your pocket, even if it's still in the wrapper?

Attacks do happen. Keep your tent free of food, and keep your campsite clean, you shouldn't have a problem.

Oh - and btw ....

Due to board problems i was pretty much locked out for a month.

I then took about 2 weeks before i started to come back a bit more often.

I spent 2 more weeks focusing a little bit in politics with what little time i had.

So 2 plus months since i've been here. In that time we've had people come, and go, and a complete software change, and a hunting season has been and gone.

Post number 3 from the top.... Bear defense. :)

It's nice to know some things will never change :)
