Do i really want a .40S W handgun??

I say get a .40. I find it to be a challenging caliber to shoot well. So I shoot it more.

It's an easy caliber to reload if you choose to do so.

If not, when the next 9mm ammo shortage surfaces you'll always have available ammo.

Make sense, if you can be good with .40 shooting 9mm after should be a breeze

I've got the np58 and it's honestly one of my favorite pistols to shoot. I sold my first one and regretted it so much I bought another, which works as good as the first 1000+ rounds with no malfunction whatsoever.

Sfrc has them for $299 free shipping, and 15% off right now, so $255+tax shipped to your door. Can't see you being unhappy with it..

That is for this very reason im on the fence the price is great and bonus i can use the mag in my Np22

But still thats half the fund id need to buy a decent 9mm

I would say for shooting pleasure, don't just duplicate what you have in 40. Its not worth the bother.
Yeah, I gotta agree here. I wouldn’t bother getting the same gun in a different calibre, especially if you don’t like P22x style pistols. I do like the .40 round—I’ve got a USP and P99 in the calibre that are great fun to shoot.

I personally would pass on the Norinco in any cartridge at any price. Personal preference. I have owned and shot 9, 40 & 45. I don't really care for the .40 S&W. I would save up for a better quality handgun in 9mm or .45 ACP.

On the NP58, yes, pass. Very fussy about ammo. Not so with either the NP85B in 9mm or the Norinco 1911 in .45. These I will likely not sell; ever.

Regarding .40 S & W; I had no intention of ever getting into it; but I bought a 3 gallon pail of .45 brass and discovered the top 1 1/2" was .45; the rest were .40. I bought the NP 58. It shot great, but frequent misfeeds with everything except 180 gr. truncated cone reloads. I sold it and for $550.00 got a full-sized jericho all steel in .40. I love it!!! It took me a while to get on to it, but now it is pretty much point and shoot... just like the NZ85 and the Nork 1911.

I shoot a lot of centerfire out of these pistols, and don't find one "snappier" than the other; maybe the 9mm is a bit milder, but I don't notice if I don't take notice. Point, shoot, and hit the targets, and I mostly shoot a 20-25 yards.

If you reload and have access to cheap (or free) .40 brass, it makes a nice reason to own one. You can load some very soft .40 rounds to shoot at the range and still make the power requirements for games or just plinking/target practice . If you don't, I would stick with 9mm for all the reasons listed above.

This, and if you shop around, 40 brass can be had cheap. Cost to reload is similar to 9mm; .45 bullets are costlier.

Another 45 is already on the list but i was wondering if .40 was fun enough to be worth it to delay. I see people praising the 10mm everywhere so i figured .40S&W must be similar. From the look of it nobody really carry a torch for this particular round. A wheel gun is on the list too but way down. One of the older guy at the range made me shoot his S&W Model 17 (if that even exist i didnt notice exactly what gun it was) and it was a nice shooting gun.

I have a Norrinco 1911 in .45 and i really enjoy it. The duplicate is mostly because the cheap norrinco pistol are both the same model for 9 and 40. If they had something different in 40s&w id be way more interested.

There was a Norinco NP 40 in the EE; a CZ clone. That's a good pistol!! I only bought my Jericho because I could not find the NP.40

Absolutely love .40...shoot it more than any other caliber...all the fun of a .45...slightly more costly than 9mm..go for it...

Just get the bigger brother, 10mm.
I shoot both 9mm and .45ACP but 10mm will be next.

10mm handgun are wayyyy too expensive there is no way its going to happen in the near future.

I could maybe wait and go with a Jericho in .40 at some point. These are not too expensive versus other and the steel frame should help with recoil of the round. Im just not a fan of the slide safety and frame safety jericho seems next to impossible to find in Canada.

If you’re set on a .40, then think about a HK USP. I believe they were designed ground up to handle the .40S&W round.

You can find them used on the EE for usually between $600-$800 depending on number of mags and variants. They are accurate and dependable handguns. A bit big though so no good if you have small hands.

Buy more ammo for the guns you already have instead of spending the money on another gun.

Well i wanted to jump on the .40 train with the cheap norinco. If i end up wanting either a Jericho, USP or anything else in that price range it wont be for a while i will buy a new 9 and 45 before spending 600$ on .40. But a USP could be nice i shot a SFP9 at some point and i really enjoyed it, HK make some nice stuff so im sure their USP are just as nice

I prefer to shoot my revolver any day but I wanted to try a center fire self loader. So I bought a Norc 45 as there was not much investment. A couple of thousand rounds later I still enjoy it but I don't shoot as well as with a revolver. From the prices I have seen on ammunition though a 9 mm would have been the best buy. Also the cheaper the ammunition the cheaper the brass for reloading.
This may not answer the question but my 2 cents anyway.
