No hand loading yet. Maybe soon though as I've been tempted recently by some unusual calibers that would require it. The reliability of the DE so far has been great in both cals. For me the 50 took learning a different technique to avoid being smacked in the noggin with hot brass though.

Wear the 50 cal battle burn scars proudly! Not too many people can say they've been hit by .50 brass!

For a new one, yes. The one I've got my eye on is substantially less. Plus, there aren't really any other handguns I'm after right now.

I enjoyed mine for a short time, then the joy wore off. Wanted something more practical and got rid of it. Can be a lot of fun at the range... look at this redneck guy making a light storm:

 
I owned a NIB Polished Chrome .44 Magnum....was awesome fun for a bit. Not really reliable, from a box of 50 rounds at least a couple times the slide wouldn't close into battery all the way, little nudge with my thumb closed it shut.

For the 2.5K price tag, I liquadated it and bought my MARK 23 (for the second time lol) damn I love that SOCOM .45, or I'd get a Springfield TRP Operator .45 or another quality 1911.

The DE is a nice show piece, but not very practical. Yes I do believe get the .50 AE , But for me the .44 Mag is much more available and slightly cheaper on ammo, but the .50 cal is sh$t


Buy it, take amazing care of it, and a year down the road when your board of it, putti on e chopping block and get a new toy ;)
 
I've owned 2 Desert Eagles as well, one older .357 Mag in blue without the top rail, which I traded for a newer .44 Mag polished chrome DE. My description of them is they're delightfully impractical. Lots of fun to shoot, they can be a little finicky with ammo, but once you find a type of ammo they like, they run flawlessly. The owners manual recommends what ammo functions best, and if you follow those suggestions, you'll have no issues. I got rid of the .44, unfortunately, as I wanted a NR re-barreled Swiss Arms Carbine.
 
Go for a .44 revolver, or bigger if you desire. 500 S&W or the 460V for something more versatile. I think the legend of the dessert eagle is what your after, thought about it myself many of times. Cool idea, want to see it in the safe, but it's just not a gun that deserves to be there. Between poor ergonomics, reliability issues and price, there are a plethora of firearms that come before it.
 
No offence to any D.E owners, they are beautiful. Just every time I have some money to burn (ahem, I mean invest) I end up going another route.

Goes to show you....learn something every day. Man I'd have bet on the DE in Robocop........must be getting old......shuffle......grumble.......mumble......shuffle......
