Hi there,

I have just purchased my firearm (Beretta 92fs) for IPSC and im getting ready for my first match... I was wondering if juniors have to pay the match fee?

thanks alot..

What else should I practice before my qualifier?

That will likely depend on your club/section. In Manitoba theres been some changes to encourage juniors, but I'm pretty sure it's regional. Check with your sections director to confirm.

they should make you pay double! and bring food and drinks for everybody.

Yes, I have been in matches all around ON and juniors pay match fees unless otherwise waived by the match director and are normally stated in the match application.

practice basics...mag changes... double taps at maybe 5 yards, 10 yards and 20 yards. For the first match just relax, keep it safe and have some fun. Dont worry about speed, just keep it on the paper and keep the RO happy. Whats your first match?

Drama Daze is only a week and abit away...

you got enough mags for the match? makes life easier... especially if you drop some in the mud or panic and start to miss...

Be careful if theres a porta potty...lately Ive been in a world of fear bout dropping my gun down the ####ter at Guelph.. you would think they would keep and emergency net strapped to the outside just in case huh?

What you can do to practice is get some Azoom snap caps and practice trigger control/pressure while watching TV... it does help a fair bit..

+1 on what USP said. Plus ask questions and for tips from the experienced guys.

I shot in the NB provincials last weekend and it was the first match I shot in since doing my BB. Had fun and learned from the others.

Yeah I do have enough mags..

And I am also using a holster with a thumb lock just to be 100% sure that it is in the holster safe for the first match.. thanks alot for the help guys!!!

ditch the thumb lock... you dont need it and it will cause you problems. Its either in the holster or it isnt. If your holster has decent retention this will not be an issue. To set retention, adjust it so that it basically lightly holds pistol in place with holster inverted. My leather holster easily has enough retention to hold pistol securely.

Try a cheap $25 dollar Kydex..

I do have 2 Fobus kydex holsters they just dont mount onto the belt I have but I will be buying Fubus mag pouches as well just so I have another rig to use..

Double Taps are a bad habit to get into. Aimed shots are the way to go. As your timing improves, your shot to shot time will decrease and you'll still be taking aimed shots; they'll just seem like double taps to everybody else.

yeah I meant actually aiming while doing them. But really how much aiming is that at some in your face targets.

A little off topic Walter , but how long have you guy's been doing that ?
And how many more junior shooters has it brought out ?
It sounds like a great idea , just wondering if it panned out .
Thanks - Rick

Do you know when you are squaded at EOHC?
My son and I will be there, he is also a junior.
If you are interested PM us and you can get a
juniors perspective on IPSC. My son has done
about 22 matches since last Oct.

check out the Futures Program that Ontario Offers. it's on IPSC Ontario website under training.... as for match fees for Level II's IT's up to the host club... We at Windsor Don't charge juniors for our matches.

Good luck shoot straight and if you have any questions about something at a match ask a R.O. they are there to help you shoot safely and will be more than happy to answer your questions.
