Do M9s exist in the wild?

Hi Guys,

I'm pretty new to the club, and really new to guns in general, so forgive me if this is a really obvious or silly question. I really like the look and feel of the Beretta 92FS, and am thinking of getting one once my RPAL comes in. In doing my research on it, I found out that it's basically the non-military version of the M9 handgun used by the US Military (or rather the M9 is the military version of the 92FS, but anyway...). I was wondering if these are ever available for civilians to own? I noticed some military surplus pistols from other places (like the Tokarev TT-33s that everyone seems to love from Kelly's), so I figured it was worth asking.

I tried searching, but unfortunately "M9" is only 2 characters so most searches drop it as being "too short" of a search term.

Yes the M9 is available for civilians to buy. It is slightly different than the regular 92FS version which is more readily available. I picked up mine a couple of years ago when several vendors up here had them in stock but I haven't seen them listed for awhile though.

They stopped listing the Beretta M9 because they only offered this model to civillians again due to it having it's 25th anniversary 2-3 years ago. The only way you would find one now is used most likely. Even the Beretta M9A1 is hard to find.

I don't mind used, though my guess would be that they'd fetch a high price because of their rarity. I'll keep my eyes open, but I'll likely just get a regular 92FS or a Girsan.

Anyone who managed to nab one of the 25th Anniversary editions, I'd love to see pics!

...here's mine :)

Well, used to be mine. Sold it here years ago :(

I was somewhat disillusioned with the new M9A1 I had...it seemed to essentially be a 92FS slide/barrel/etc. on an M9A1 frame. I wasn't too happy with all those idiot marks on it...hence I traded it off for a P226 Blackwater and got a 92FS Inox instead. It seems the older M9's don't have the marks...but the newer ones do.

Beretta lists the M9 on their site as the "M9 Commercial" version. The one I got a couple of years ago came in a cardboard box and has none of the "read manual" etc. warnings anywhere on it. The wrapper that came around the box says, "The Beretta M9 Pistol" and "Celebrating 20 years of service with America's Armed Forces." It also has the crests of the US Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast guard on the wrapper. The only real difference; besides the lack of warnings, is that the dust cover is slightly different than the one's on the 92FS.

Yes. That's the one. It was 20 years and 25 as I stated earlier. My mistake. I can't stand the slanted dust cover. Just ruins the lines of the pistol IMO.

I prefer Inox Berettas as well. New models do have too much warning crap on the slide. I also not a huge fan of the new frame finish...
